Are you coming to Scarborough, Tim?
It will be good to finally meet you.
I've noticed you have entered the Northumberland Congress in a couple of weeks time.
Is there a reduced entry limit for Scarborough?
Yep, I entered last Thursday - it will be my first time in Scarborough. By all accounts it's a v good event
So you're a Scarborough virgin.
Don't worry I go to the Scarborough Congress every year. It is the best. I can recommend some great places to eat.
I might be bringing a Scarborough virgin with me this year.
I think a lot of us will be trying new events, at least until the chess world gets back near to normal (and I like trying new events - and countries anyway)

We normally visit Rennards in Scarborough on the Saturday night. They do a great big portion of Fish and Chips followed by Sticky Toffee Pudding.

Not as good as the Fish and Chips you get in Blackpool though.
Will you be coming to the Blackpool Congress next year?

Depends on when, but I believe it normally clashes with Bad Woerishofen

Blackpool Congress is normally the second weekend in March.
I checked the website and it still says "TBA".

Bad Woerishofen is listed as Mar 11-19 - but plenty of time for changes

Good news for the Scarborough Congress
Gavin Williamson has been sacked as Education Secretary today.
Perhaps he might turn up at the Scarborough Chess Congress.

I would be rather surprised if, to quote the late lamented J H Donner, he "knew the difference between a bishop and a knight" however.

Scarborough entries updated at http://chess-results.com/tnr575745.aspx?lan=1&art=0
126 entries so far is terrific.
I was hoping you would have entered the Major section like me, as my grade is 1703.

Is there an announced capacity limit? The Foundation section is the exception to the flood of entries. Bury St Edmunds, the week before, has already reached capacity at 90.

There's not so much scheduled from the end of October onwards.

I'm afraid I don't know Roger. Alex McFarlane will probably know as he is organising Scarborough.
Pre pandemic it was between 380 and 400.
I've not entered Scarborough myself yet as I was making sure I had accommodation over there.
We managed to get the last two single rooms in the Bed & Breakfast we normally stay at.
It's a bit of a nightmare that weekend as it is also half term and the goth weekend up in Whitby. Not sure if the Victorian weekend is also still on at the Spa Complex.

Don't worry Roger, I've found plenty of events taking place from the end of October. Not pre-pandemic levels.
But enough to get your teeth into.
I'm afraid I've been quite busy with work and the adult and junior clubs recently.
I just need to buy a Blackpool Gazette and cut the grass, I'll report back later with some new Topics in Congess Diary and in the Obscure Tournaments along with Senior and Junior tournaments.

"I just need to buy a Blackpool Gazette and cut the grass,"

A lawnmower might be easier...

"the goth weekend up in Whitby."

From what I hear, that is much more entertaining than chess.
