Player from Coulsdon, London has entered 179 grade.
So the number of entries is now 44.

Fingers very much crossed, but I did notice today that South Tyneside is currently ranked 8th on the England rolling 7 day rate of new cases list, which is around 5 miles from the venue.

Might be why the number of new entries have slowed.
There are still 44 entries so far.
According to the entries list there is a Jarah down twice both from Gosforth and both with a grade of 110.

That (or indeed both) would presumably be Ted Jarah who must be a very advanced age now.
Re the "closeness" of South Tyneside, it shouldn't be forgotten it is on the other side of the river Tyne and that will make a significant difference.

From what I recall of the area from 2012. there a tunnel to South Shields close to the venue, making staying south of the river a viable option for accommodation.

Who are the other arbiters at the Congress?
Apart from Northumberland, Fareham, Harrogate and Manx, are there any other OTB tournaments coming up before Christmas in the UK Alex?

There is no reason you should have known,
Lara and I will be the arbiters.
Who knows about other events. I know that there are possibilities for other events being investigated but there are so many problems to be overcome.

I think the government weekly surveillance figures published later today will indicate whether South Tyneside will likely have some local lockdown measures imposed. I think of yesterday they’d climbed to 6th in highest infection rate in the country list, and were in the red zone with above 50 cases per 100,000. I think North Tyneside is reasonably high on the list but outside the top 20 ...although the latest report only covers data upto the end of August, so is lagging a bit on some current totals.

As an add on, Matt Hancock has tonight (4th Sept) added South Tyneside onto the areas of concern list, where the next stage would be a local lockdown;

Number of entries have increased to 52.
Looks to be a strong tournament already with Tim Wall, Niamh Bridgeman and Ben Graff playing.

Fingers still crossed. Gateshead now the highest rate in the country and North Tyneside up 132% in the last 7 days. I'm hoping we don't follow France with 7000+ daily infection rates and the young passing it to the old.

8 out of the top 10 in the country are in the North West.
Preston is number 10 on the list.
Speaking of which, good to see fellow league player, Graham Ashcroft from Preston Chess Club entering Northumberland.
