Entries for the Manx Championship are now closed.
18 players have entered, with the strongest being:
Li Wu 2298 and Keith Allen 2156.

I did promise to make some comments about this event, which I have not got round to doing until now.

There was never any intention that it should be an open Weekend Congress, Entrants were always restricted to Isle of Man Chess Association Members and a small number of invited guests. Only two people were ever so invited, one of them being me.

At the time when I received my invitation at the end of June, there did seem to be some prospect of my being able to take up the invitation, although even then the chances were slim. As things turned out, the course of the pandemic soon put paid to the possibility.

All the 18 players taking part are IOMCA members and Isle of Man residents. They will be able to play a normal OTB tournament, with no special requirements.

As a longstanding friend of the IOMCA. I have been to chess events in the Isle of Man over 25 times, dating back to 1991.

The Championship proper was won by Li Wu, with 5½/6.

I also managed to become the Isle of Man inaugural poker champion http://www.iomtoday.co.im/article.cfm?id=59307

However, that one was mostly down to luck.

Well done Li Wu.
I wouldn't put it down to luck.
The late George Ellison said to me that " you have to generate the luck "
You played better than your opponent.
I hear that some of the lockdown rules might be relaxed soon in the Isle of Man.

Yep was covid free for many months, but xmas period got an outbreak. Hopefully we can eliminate it as New Zealand did with the current lockdown.
