What would a Scheveningen simul look like? I understand both terms in isolation but not combined.

I didn't understand either, so I enquired.

I am reliably informed that there is a missing semi-colon in the tweet. There is a 6 player elite Scheveningen and there are Simuls.

Are there any plans for rapid or weekend events? I guess it depends on the venue...

The latest chessmoves has more details
The Classic returns!

Tim Wall, LCC Press Officer, writes ... Chess in Schools and Communities is happy to announce that the London Chess Classic will be going ahead this year, with a varied programme of events taking place from 3-12 December at the Cavendish Centre in central London. Due to Covid concerns, there will be smaller numbers of participants than usual, and events will be on a ticketed-only basis.
The centrepiece will be an England vs Rest of the World match, with Michael Adams, Luke McShane
and Gawain Jones against a RoW team including Nikolai Vitiugov and Boris Gelfand.

At the other end of the chess-playing spectrum, there will be the traditional London Chess Classic
events for invited groups of CSC schoolchildren from around the country, with up to 100 children
attending on any particular day.

Then there will be a 10-player English Rapidplay Championship (11-12 December), featuring several
Grandmasters, a 10-player English Women’s Rapidplay Championship (4-5 December), and an all-star commentary team (Nigel Short, Matthew Sadler & Natasha Regan, Stuart Conquest, and Chris Ward) providing free live online coverage of all the events as well as on the Magnus v Nepo World
Championship match.

There are also plans to include a blitz tournament and other events. Further details from Monday

I find it strange that a major chess event is due to start in London in less than two weeks' time and yet no information on the event is available apart from a press release by the LCC Press Officer.

Those who want to take part but are neither professionals nor children will be interested in the reference to a blitz tournament and other events, but the details promised by the LCC for 14 November have not appeared.

I don't have contact details for the LCC Press Officer. I wonder if he could be prevailed upon to reveal some more information.

Thanks. I can see details of the blitz competitions. There doesn't seem to be a standardplay tournament which is open to everyone.

There isn't. Aside from the Simuls, Blitz tournaments and the school events during the day it's an event only for spectators. There's also invitational rapidplays, ten player APAs for invited top male and female players with commentary on both those, the England match and the World Championship match.

The simultaneous with Short has been cancelled and participants will be refunded. Any idea if the simuls with the other 3 are still expected to go on?

A post from Nigel on Facebook shows that he has a positive Covid test so that will be the reason for his simul being cancelled. Unless the other three suffer a similar fate then hopefully they are going ahead. It may be worth contacting the organiser though if you have any concerns, especially as the Short simul is still showing as going ahead on the tournament website.
