Regarding Roger's point regarding volumes if entries currently received are any indication we may well be up this year. I'm about to pass 70 entries which might not sound a lot but I think usually I'm not even half that at this stage. We were just under 40 at the new year mark; think in 2020 I'd had two at that stage.

Any entries received from now on will be going onto a waiting list. We are attempting to secure additional space within the school to increase numbers. In addition there will most certainly be withdrawals.
Entries can be found on Steve Mann's website in the Doncaster Congress section (as soon as Steve has time to upload them).

Top seed in the Open is a Scottish player whose name was unfamiliar. Seemingly the quoted rating is for online play.
He's played for Alba in the 4NCL

According to the ECF rating list it was his published OTB standard rating in Jan22.
The discrepancy has not gone unnoticed by us and has been flagged to his tournament controller.
As entries secretary I have to apply the rules consistently and use the same rating where possible for all players. I've already had other cases where rating discrepancies cause issues. If I use the Scottish, or FIDE rating, then any other player in a similar situation could request an alternative rating be used.

That seems fine doesn't it? He has and ECF 2343* rating in February 2022 which is a conversion from his ECF 219 grade in July 2020. My understanding is that the * means this is the rating to be used when a player returns to chess after an absence of less than five years (but someone may correct me on the timeframe).

I once had a player enter Yeovil and ask if I could use his Welsh rating rather than his English one, because the former was based on more games. It turned out to make no difference to his seeding position.

It's a 219
F though, based on just six games, four from Northumberland and two from the 4NCL. If Congress organisers ignored F grades and their rating equivalent for the purpose of setting pairing orders, I doubt there would be objections.

Good news - we have obtained extra space within the school. We can therefore increase capacity to 200. We will be moving one section out of the hall giving all players more space.
I will shortly be contacting all players on the waiting list however this does create (I think) 10 extra spaces - first come first served. After that the waiting list will go back in place again.
