Welsh events

Post by Roger de Coverly » Fri Mar 04, 2022 11:44 am

A couple of long standing Welsh events are seemingly returning to the calendar.
https://www.welshchessunion.uk/calendar/

At Easter (16th to 18th April), there's the Welsh Championship, It's at the usual hotel in Cardiff, now going under the name of Mercure Cardiff North Hotel, Circle Way East, Llanedeyrn, Cardiff CF23 9XF. The Championsdhop is only for players qualifying and Welsh, the other section or sections are open to all.

In July (8th to 13th) there's the South WA;es International Open.

Entry form now available - https://www.welshchessunion.uk/WelshCC/2022/index.html, with the curious condition that you have to draw at least one game in the event to win the Welsh Ladies or U21 championships - "The Welsh Women’s and Under 21 Champions will have the highest score in the Championship with a minimum of at least one drawn game."

If Richard Haddrell was still around this condition would probably appear in the SCCU Ragbag.

Rather badly worded! I guess they mean a minimum score of 0.5..., although one cannot rule out a sexist belief that women cannot possibly win games.

"SCCU Executive meeting 4.4.14
David Sedgwick wishes it to be known that he was on time for the start of this meeting."

Fake News!

So if you win all your games, that's no good?

Win all games > minimum at least one draw ==> it's clearly ok.

I do think that the wording is slightly ambiguous tbh, even if its fairly obvious what they in reality mean.
