Blackpool Congress 2023

Post by John Sellen » Sun Jan 15, 2023 9:02 am

I am considering entering the Blackpool congress in February
Is anyone aware where I can find an up to date list of entries. The list of entries on the congress website only has 13 names on it and has not been updated for weeks

Thanks to anyone who is able to help

Hi John. Happy New Year.
I hope you do enter the Blackpool Congress, it will be good to finally meet you.
I've looked around and can't find any other lists.
A friend from Poulton-le-Fylde Chess Club entered the Major, by post, a couple of weeks ago. His name has still not appeared on the list.

Hi John. The list of entrants has been updated with your name in the Intermediate Section.
I will be playing in the Minor but will be taking a bye on the Friday night.

Good luck to all forum members and guests playing at the Blackpool Chess Conference, except those playing me, of course.

I've taken a bye tonight. Numbers are higher than last year. There are 345 entrants, apparently.
I'll try to post a report after each round.

Simon appears to be currently playing the rather famous Stephen Merchant; https://chess-results.com/tnr728149.asp ... ECF&snr=48

…although despite having the same year of birth and the famous Stephen Merchant liking playing chess apparently, it wasn’t that Stephen Merchant, Simon told me.

I popped to the venue and was delighted to see normal service resumed, though I was a bit concerned about the lighting in the main hall.

Played in the Minor and really enjoyed it. Fine venue. Good to see an abundance of juniors at the top boards in the section.
