Wellingborough 12-13 August
Another new congress is scheduled for 12-13 August at Wellingborough in Northamptonshire. Details here: https://www.chesseventsuk.co.uk/congress-2023
With morning rounds starting at 10.30 on the Saturday and 11.00 on the Sunday, London based players could travel each day by rail (subject to whatever the rail unions have planned).

Half point buys? Is that where you bribe your opponent to accept a draw?

This tournament is now imminent and the entry lists are at chess-results.
https://chess-results.com/tnr793456.aspx?lan=1
A somewhat imbalanced split between the sections has resulted.
Under 2400 34 players, but only 4 above 2000, top seed 2141
Under 1900 9
Under 1700 43
Under 1000 8 (ECF rated only obviously)

I'm surprised it's got that many entrants with a £50 entry fee. That's a total of £4700 in entry fees and only £905 being paid out in prizes.Roger de Coverly wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 12:59 pmThis tournament is now imminent and the entry lists are at chess-results.

It’s a new Congress so if it’s deemed a success they can always change the sections next time.Roger de Coverly wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 12:59 pmThis tournament is now imminent and the entry lists are at chess-results.

(With those low entries in two sections I’d almost be tempted to change the time control and make the sections APA if the players agreed.)

The £905 may be all they thought comfortable guaranteeing and they may pay out more based on the actual entries.Ian Thompson wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 1:11 pmI'm surprised it's got that many entrants with a £50 entry fee. It is a new Congress after all so unlikely to have any reserve fund.

chessengland run a series of London based tournaments and have done so for many years. I don't think they increase the prize fund even when oversubcribed.Organizer(s) chesseventsuk.co.uk and www.chessengland.com

One of those 34 players is a potential super GM..Roger de Coverly wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 12:59 pmThis tournament is now imminent and the entry lists are at chess-results.

Thanks for the links, BrendanBrendan O'Gorman wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2023 1:33 pmResults: https://chess-results.com/tnr793456.asp ... ES&flag=30

Brendan has managed a picture of all of the section winners, bar one. Himself! - joint winner of the under 1900. And I can add, without fear of offending his opponent, that he had the better of the draw with the co-winner.
This was the first time I'd played with a 60/30 time control, and I liked it. It meant three games could comfortably be played in a day without the risk of a late-night finish.

The same. Believe he beat Michael Adams' record as the youngest winner.
The results seemed rather odd until I realised they were FIDE ratings and so largely defunct.

Well done Kevin (Keith)! Nice to see underrated seniors rather than underrated juniors winning!Kevin Williamson wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2023 9:39 pmThanks for the links, BrendanBrendan O'Gorman wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2023 1:33 pmResults: https://chess-results.com/tnr793456.asp ... ES&flag=30

60/30 seems a bit quick to me - just 90 minutes for a 60 move game. When you have been brought up on 40 in 2!
