Isle of Wight Chess Congress - Friday 19th April to Sunday 21st 2024

Hi all,

We are incredibly pleased to announce THE WIGHTLINK ISLE OF WIGHT CHESS CONGRESS! 😁😁
Taking place in a historic Castle hotel meters from the beach: Friday April 19th to Sunday 21st 2024. πŸš„πŸš’πŸβ™ŸπŸ–πŸ°

It's only 2 hours 15 mins from London Waterloo station to the playing venue, by train and Fast Cat Ferry.

We have Shohreh Bayat on board as Chief Arbiter overseeing a FIDE rated Open and ECF sections. The talent is already coming in with former English Champion GM Keith Arkell heading up The Open. Keith is joined by the super talented FM Jonathan Pein, with many more incredible players to come.
Section capacity is quite strictly limited due to the size of the venue. Please sign up early to avoid disappointment.

Thank you, Dave

There can't be many events that say that one of the benefits they come with is a convenient place to moor your boat if sailing to the venue!

This condition in the event rules doesn't make sense - "In the unlikely event of [Bucholz not breaking a tie], a 3+2 Blitz will determine the overall winner after the final round with the player bidding the lowest time to play as white. The first to win shall be declared the winner."

They seem to be using Bucholz to separate ties for money prizes, rather than just for the trophies. I prefer the usual UK approach of just splitting the prizes.

All good feedback. We were planning to use tie break as the prize pool isn't especially large for this first event, more so in the lower sections. You prefer prize sharing and no tie break?

It's what everybody else in the UK does. The more obscure the tie break, the less likely it is that players will know where they stand during the last round.
