For the "New Year" (5 rounds)

It's at the Horntye Centre as usual.
The Chatsworth Hotel on the sea front has closed. There's what looks to be a new hotel called "The Vive" in Havelock Road.

Two games in a day sounds awful to me.

As you will know it was traditionally the norm in weekend tournaments - some used to have three games on the Saturday!

Re: Hastings 2024-25
A little more information has been published for the Con Power and New Year tournaments. There's still no means of entering though.
The prizes for these tournaments look quite generous compared to the entry fees. Presumably, they've got some sponsorship because they'll need over 150 entries just for the entry fee income to cover the prize money, which would seem unlikely.

Online entry available, at last.
I suppose we have to wait and see how entries are affected by this being so much later than it normally is.

Still no round times though. With double round days, the timing of the morning start time could make a difference particular to those players intending to travel some distance to reach Hastings.Ian Thompson wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 11:43 amI suppose we have to wait and see how entries are affected by this being so much later than it normally is.
I don't see a statement of the move rates either. Will they be 90 minutes with 30 second increments in the Masters? Again this can affect a decision to enter.

Presumably covered by "Prizes, entry fees, rating bands and other details to be announced soon …" but clearly vital information for a player before committing to a tournament.Roger de Coverly wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 1:08 pmStill no round times though. I still hate the idea of two games in a day. Petrosian will be turning in his grave.

So it's not just the former world champion who blocked me on Twitter that I'm upsetting then as I organise 9 game in 5 day title norm events with not just one, but two games starting before 4.30 pmKevin Thurlow wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 5:56 pm"I still hate the idea of two games in a day. According to the FIDE rating website, yes.Roger de Coverly wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 1:08 pmI don't see a statement of the move rates either. Will they be 90 minutes with 30 second increments in the Masters?

Evidently not that vital as over 80 players have now entered the Masters without this information being published.LawrenceCooper wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 4:41 pmPresumably covered by "Prizes, entry fees, rating bands and other details to be announced soon …" but clearly vital information for a player before committing to a tournament.Roger de Coverly wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 1:08 pmStill no round times though.
