e2e4 Uxbridge International : 11th - 15th August 2010

Post by Sean Hewitt » Tue Jun 15, 2010 1:20 pm

After the success of the first two Uxbridge Internationals we will be holding the 3rd event from Wednesday 11th - Sunday 15th August 2010. Full details are available via the website www.e2e4.org.uk/international

The Masters event offers players (rated 2100+) the opportunity of 9 extremely competitive games of chess with the the chance to secure that all important norm. We are running two norm sections with entries accepted on a strictly first come first served basis. There are currently just 4 places left in the Masters, and therefore only titled players can now be accepted.

The Womens Invitational event offers female players the opportunity both to play in an all female event and to score a WIM norm norm. Any female player wishing to play should contact Loz Cooper for further details.

The Challengers event offers players rated 1900+ or graded above 150 ECF 9 competitive FIDE rated games. All 9 games are FIDE rated, even if unrated players take part (this is unique to all play alls). Unrated players will obtain a full FIDE rating just by playing in this one event*. Players will be divided into equal strength sections of 10 players if entries allow more than one section to run. The winner of each Challengers section will qualify to play in the next Masters event irrespective of their rating - and their entry fee will be paid by us!

The Major event is open to all players, although it's primarily aimed at players rated below 1900 (or graded below 150 ECF) who want to play 9 competitive FIDE rated games of chess in a friendly atmosphere with the opportunity to gain those all important rating points or obtain their first ever FIDE rating. All 9 games are FIDE rated, even if unrated players take part (this is unique to all play alls). Unrated players will obtain a full FIDE rating just by playing in this one event.* Players will be placed in groups of 10 according to rating / grade so that all the players in a group are of a similar strength.

The Masters section is full. If you want to play in the Masters you can either enter the Challengers and qualify for the next Masters that way, or join a reserve list for this August's Masters (in case of any withdrawal).

There is 1 place left in the Challengers. I don't think it will be around for long so if you want it I suggest that you enter today!

The Major is also full. However, we have managed to secure some extra playing space and therefore we will run an extra Major section. 3 places have already been taken so if you want to play in that section I strongly recommend you enter asap. The remaining 7 places will go quickly, and it is first come first served.

All sections now full.

There are now just 5 places left in the extra Major section that we are putting on, available first come first served. I expect these to be gone within the week so if you do want to play there is not much time left to enter. If you are entering by post, please call me first to save you a berth.

Thanks,

Sean

Sean

When is the drawing of groups due to take place? I suggest the drawing of lots at an elaborate & highly condensed 10 minute opening ceremony involving dancing girls and fireworks prior to the 1st round.

I'll see what we can do!

The players will be allocated to groups and published by 4th August. The actual draw will then be done by the National Lottery draw on Saturday 7th August 2010.

1 place left in the Major. And due to a late withdrawal, there is now an unexpected place in the Challengers.

First come, first served!

"The Major event is open to all players, although it's primarily aimed at players rated below 2000"

http://www.e2e4.org.uk/international/20 ... /index.htm

I think that allows for some discretion, and makes getting a FIDE rating easier.

Ah yes, I see... I was going from the e2e4 home page that reads

The next planned events are:-

Uxbridge International : 11-15 August 2010

A further series of all play alls. These events are open to players of all standards. We have two Masters sections which are open to all and in which IM norms can be obtained as well as a Women's only section where WIM norms are obtainable. There are three Challengers sections (for players rated 1900 -2250) and two Major tournaments (for players below 2000) .

The Major is primarily for players under 2000, but not exclusively for players under 2000.

And yes, you can play in the Major as two players in the Major actually wanted to play in the Challengers but couldn't because it was full. I'm sure they would still want to swap.

Shall I switch you?

Am I right in thinking there's monetary prizes for this tournament? On reflection if I’m going to get out of this rut and I have no prize money to aim for then logic dictates I grin and bare it in the challengers. Thanks though.. appreciated.

Did you mean "Am I right in thinking there's NO monetary prizes for this tournament"? If so, then I believe you're correct.
