Re: e2e4 Nottingham Congress : 10-12 May 2013
It's a pity that this event clashes with the U.K. Chess Challenge Nottinghamshire Mega-Final to be held on Sunday 12th May.
I'm not sure which event was organised first. It doesn't really matter. It would be good if the clash could be avoided in future.
I was asked a while ago to be an assistant controller at the Mega-Final, so that's where I'll be on the Sunday. I hope to get the chance to see what's happening at Sean's event on the Saturday, or maybe the Friday.

I note that the further details page gives the major as U1900, whereas you've written U1950 above. As someone rated 1948 it would be good to know which is the true value.
True glory lies in doing what deserves to be written; in writing what deserves to be read.

No mention of the mega final date here www.nottschess.org though I don't think the clash is a big deal.John Swain wrote:It's a pity that this event clashes with the U.K. Chess Challenge Nottinghamshire Mega-Final to be held on Sunday 12th May.

I don't think it should matter too much either. The Mega-Final is not a county association-run event (a few controllers are county officials but acting in an unofficial capacity).Sean Hewitt wrote:No mention of the mega final date here http://www.nottschess.org though I don't think the clash is a big deal.John Swain wrote:It's a pity that this event clashes with the U.K. Chess Challenge Nottinghamshire Mega-Final to be held on Sunday 12th May.

With the e2e4 Congress just three weeks after a long established locally run event attracting 150 entries, isn't the Nottingham e2e4 going to struggle for numbers?Sean Hewitt wrote:No mention of the mega final date here http://www.nottschess.org though I don't think the clash is a big deal.

Eh, he's unrated. Getting a 2537 into your field is just what you want as an unrated player.Sean Hewitt wrote:Player rolls up half an hour late.

Re: e2e4 Nottingham Congress : 10-12 May 2013
I don't know what Sean's expectations were for Nottingham; the entry for e2-e4 was 79 which is about 50% of the Nottingham Congress entry.Roger de Coverly wrote:With the e2e4 Congress just three weeks after a long established locally run event attracting 150 entries, isn't the Nottingham e2e4 going to struggle for numbers?Sean Hewitt wrote:No mention of the mega final date here http://www.nottschess.org though I don't think the clash is a big deal.
When I used to organise the Midland Individual Congress at Derby, the arrangements were that there was a minimum of three weeks gap between Nottingham and Derby. If the gap between the Nottingham Congress and the e2-e4 event had been less than three weeks, I guess it could have impacted on both tournaments. I was an arbiter at the Nottingham Delancey Mega-Final - there would have been no overlap at all with e2-e4 in my estimation.
