Introduction to the Imperial College Chess Congress

Imperial College has a history of hosting chess congresses several decades ago, and revived the tradition with its first long-play congress in over a decade in late 2011. We have since followed up with a second in early 2013 and this edition will be the third!

A weekend of competitive chess in a great Zone 1 location, the venue is also conveniently located directly above the Imperial College Union bar, serving a variety of drink (at incredibly cheap prices!) to lubricate the parched throats of our competitors as well as offer a variety of snacks and food. Many restaurants and takeaways (info provided on the day for any who would like) are also comfortably within a 5-10 minute walk.

A small word of warning during round 1 (Friday night): being above the Union bar, it is likely there will be some background noise after about 20.00 but hopefully nothing too loud! The rounds have been scheduled so that there should be minimal noise from other Union activities throughout the rest of the weekend.

Playing Schedule

As of this morning we are at 75 of 80 entries.

A polite reminder that the first 80 paid entries we receive will be the only entries that are guaranteed a place this weekend - please get your entries and payments in as quickly as possible to avoid disappointment.

I am pleased to say that to date I haven't had to turn anyone away from a congress but we've never had an event this well subscribed at this stage.

Thanks,
John

Apologies, but I have to share something I overheard on the train this evening on my way home from Imperial. The voice behind me was trying to get his mate to visualize the apparent wealth of his girlfriend’s family. “Yer, you should see their house, it’s got a dartboard and everything”. The height of luxury, or maybe he’s just going out with Eric Bristow’s daughter?
