Re: Bolton Easter 14 - 16 April 2017
I might make the Busy Persons and/or get to call in to the main event; it depends on my daughter really; since my Dad died it is harder for me to get time out for chess, though I am playing for the U160 v Cumbria at Lancaster on February 11th in a friendly, my first game for 12 months

Each player has ten minutes to complete the game.
A.1 A ‘Rapidplay’ game is one where either all the moves must be completed in a fixed time of more than 10 minutes but less than 60 minutes for each player; or the time allotted plus 60 times any increment is of more than 10 minutes but less than 60 minutes for each player.

But game eligibility for grading:
1. Rapidplay
Each player must have at least 10 minutes, and less than 60 minutes, for all moves. This includes both the initial time control and any subsequent time controls or quickplay finish. When Fischer (cumulative) mode is used, the time available for each player is calculated on the assumption that the duration of the game is 60 moves.

I don't think I noticed that thread. I think the intention was probably always for it to be unified, but the language was just inaccurate when the Laws of Chess changed to reduce the Rapidplay cutoff to > 10 minutes from >=15 minutes. But now that I've noticed, I believe that page is to be updated.E Michael White wrote:We've been here before.

Interestingly, I received the paper forms in the post today, so that I could put them out at the Birmingham Rapidplay on Sunday. It's interesting, because Mick posted:
"Incorporating an afternoon Busy Persons Rapidplay
£1800 in Prizes"
But the paper form says
"Incorporating an afternoon Busy Persons Blitz
£1780 in Prizes"
Anyway, the event is "particularly designed for players who can only spend half a day at their favourite game". I think that's an excellent idea, and I'm sure the event, Rapidplay or Blitz, will be well received.
Very much in the spirit of spending half a day at my favourite game, if the weather's nice I may well go to Edgbaston that afternoon for Day 2 of Warwickshire v Yorkshire.

It's been running for many years. Has it ever been included in the ECF grading list?Alex Holowczak wrote: But the paper form says

Well, you can look it up for yourself on the grading database if you like.Roger de Coverly wrote:It's been running for many years. Has it ever been included in the ECF grading list?Alex Holowczak wrote: But the paper form says

The detail on the grading website only goes back so far. Bolton is a tournament that pre-dates grading website detail and probably the 1994 limit of grading data capture.Alex Holowczak wrote:

The Bolton Rapidplay has been graded from 2009-16, I have not checked before that.

The Bolton Rapidplay takes place in November - standard 30 mins 6 round swiss
The Busy Persons has been running for years (there was one at Heaton Park at least one year, we even had one at Bury) and to the best of my knowledge has never been graded, nor intended to be
If you do have an issue with it, then suggest you contact Rod Middleton, Harry Lamb or Julian Clissold, rather than quoting me as I just copied and pasted from an email

You've confused the Bolton Rapidplay with the Bolton Busy Persons Rapidplay/Blitz, as Mick has subsequently pointed out.Brian Valentine wrote:The Bolton Rapidplay has been graded from 2009-16, I have not checked before that.

I think we can all agree that the issue of whether or not the Bolton Busy Persons' Blitz was graded before 1994 is one of utmost importance that the ECF should spend a lot of its resources investigating.Roger de Coverly wrote:The detail on the grading website only goes back so far.
