It may well have been sufficiently impressive to make it to the BCF Year Book or the chess magazines when they bothered to list all players above 175 or 200.Anthony Taglione wrote: Now, I know I had a grade back in the '70s but I'd defy anyone to find it.

Here's a suggestion for you.Anthony Taglione wrote:It seems harsh to force me into the Open section after a near 40-year absence but I can also see that it might be viewed as unfair for me to be allowed to enter any lesser section.
It's clear that I ought to join the ECF if I'm going to start playing again.
Join the ECF and enter and play in a FIDE rated rapid in August. Better yet try and enter 2 such competitions to ensure you play at least 5 FIDE rated opponents. FIDE produce rating lists monthly, so as long as 5 of your opponents are also FIDE rated and you score at least one draw against them you will have a FIDE rapid rating in the September list. You can then enter this competition in the section appropriate to your new rating.
Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.

Re: Liverpool Englsh Rapidplay Congress now open for registrations
We have now added a highest junior (under 16) prize of £100 to each of the sections Major, Intermediate and Standard as well as a £50 top junior prize for the Sunday Only Rapidplay. The Open already has a £250 top junior prize allocated.
All Fide/ECF maximum ratings for each section now appear on the Entry form page of the website and will be added to the Event details page shortly along with the grading hierarchy rules.

Not strictly - you could play in a FIDE rated blitz, where there are currently no membership requirements.Michael Farthing wrote:I think you would need to joint the ECF to get a FIDE identification number with England.

If only that were true.Adam Raoof wrote: Not strictly - you could play in a FIDE rated blitz, where there are currently no membership requirements.
Chess Scotland requested the allocation of a FIDE Identification Number to an Englishman resident in Scotland but were refused because he was not a member of the ECF. CS was told that Bronze membership was required.
I would hate to think that the ECF applied discrimination by residence!

I should have said "in England"Alex McFarlane wrote:If only that were true.Adam Raoof wrote: Not strictly - you could play in a FIDE rated blitz, where there are currently no membership requirements.

If your player stepped over the border and played at Hendon Blitz he could have a FIN without having to join the ECF. Ironically if he asked for a FIN as a non-member he would probably be refused!

I've asked for clarification from the Membership Secretary as the situation has recurred.
Do you share my understanding that a player playing in an event in England will be asked for £7.50 by the ECF but if the same player plays in an event in Scotland he will be asked for £19?

Presumably that's only if the player doesn't want SCO by the name in the FIDE list. Am I right in thinking that Chess Scotland neither demand individual membership as a condition of tournament participation, nor levy an extra fee at the individual level on non-members.Alex McFarlane wrote: but if the same player plays in an event in Scotland he will be asked for £19?

The player does not satisfy SCO residency requirements. (Nor any other conditions.)
What you state certainly was the case but that is now under review for players from outwith Scotland. Though, I believe, activity is Scotland will be sufficient rather than membership. This has yet to be confirmed.

Is there any car parking area for competitors nearby either on the Saturday or (perhaps more chance!?) on the Sunday?

Please note the Early bird prices now apply up to the start date of the event for all tournaments so prices are £5 less than prices currently quoted on the website:
https://englishrapidplaychampionship.co.uk
We have well over 200 entrants already and many more interested who were not aware of the early bird pricing hence the decision to keep to the early bird pricing now
