British predictions for FUN people
Regrettably, this forum is not as FUN as it used to be. We used to have threads of childish, and utterly enjoyable, predictions on things like the British. Not anymore. So when, on the other thread in this section, I suggested that people try to predict five players finishing on 6.5/9 other than the top three players (Howell, Jones, McShane) it was little surprise that only Chris Kreuzer took up the game before the event actually started, saying
"Five players, excluding the top three, who will make at least 6.5/9: Hawkins, Nick Pert, Adair, Hebden, Wells."
Indeed, you see, I was waiting for two people to reply before joining the game myself, quite the mistake as it turns out. The only other person to join in, rather partially in his case, was Paul Cooksey, who said
"Too soon for me to play the predictions game, not much evidence of form to go on yet. Although I did see Keith Arkell won a warm up tournament, so I am expecting him to out perform his rating. I'm also expecting Alan Merry to show continued improvement, although, again, hardly a brave prediction."
One can see why he wanted more evidence of form, since Keith and Alan have dropped 1.5 points between them already.
But we know what chess players are like. By and large, either they are gamblers, who won't join this game because there is nothing at stake, or they are people who don't like being wrong, and will only want to join in after round seven.
Well, this cannot go on. The end of play tomorrow (end of round three) shall be the deadline for making predictions, and in case of a tie, the winner of the non-existent prize shall be the person who predicted the earlier.
This is a chance to make this a FUN forum again. Please take it!
My five are Hawkins, Pert, Ghasi, Gormally, McPhillips.

I'm predicting Will Taylor to lose out to the Welsh Champion in a playoff for 1st. Howell, Jones, McShane and Rudd to trail half a point behind.

I don't think I'll ever be able to outdo the feat of picking three Portuguese players and Griezmann in my Twatball team. But here goes:
Hawkins, Pert, Adair, Ghasi, Arakhamia-Grant.

I'm tempted to go with Simon Small after his spectacular result in Dundee, but instead I'll go with:
Hawkins
Adair
Gormally
Arakhamia
WIlliams.
Given it's fun (sorry, FUN) do we have to down a shot (or something) every time one of our nominees scores a point?

Five players, apart from the top 3, to score at least 6.5 (not more than 6.5, which would mean at least 7! I am guessing 7.5/9 would be an outright winner):
Adair
Hawkins
Emms
Pert
Hebden
Nothing controversial there, so his about Steven Jones as a long shot?

Highest combined score by two related players eg Jones/Maroroa, Arkells, Grants, Hortons, Longsons, Ghasi/Munshi? No idea if the two Moores are related.

Usually you would back the Perts, but Richard is only in Llandudno as a spectator/parent.LawrenceCooper wrote:Highest combined score by two related players eg Jones/Maroroa, Arkells, Grants, Hortons, Longsons, Ghasi/Munshi?

It's a pity to miss the annual Pert - Pert pairing debate, but quite a few other possibles as Lawrence indicatesRoger de Coverly wrote:Usually you would back the Perts, but Richard is only in Llandudno as a spectator/parent.LawrenceCooper wrote:Highest combined score by two related players eg Jones/Maroroa, Arkells, Grants, Hortons, Longsons, Ghasi/Munshi?
