The GMs were not having too good a time. Mark Hebden lost to Jonah Willow whilst Keith Arkell had lost to Antanas Zapolskis. Alan Merry with 3.5/4 was drawn against Jonah Willow 3.5/4 in the last round whilst Zapolskis had also scored 3.5/4 - I think he was playing Bogdan Lalic who was on 3/4.

However after my miserable performance in the Major 1/4 - I found myself with the bye in the last round so went home early so I don't know how things finished. The way I played I'm fairly certain that had the bye actually turned up, he would have beaten me!

Jonah fought well but eventually lost narrowly to Alan.

I change "bye" to "See Arbiter" on my printed pairings. A young junior with the bye came up to me and was worried that he had to play me.

He'd obviously never seen me play.

A wise precaution (the first bit). There was a chap called "Bye" who kept winning by default in tournaments...

I learnt my lesson after one Megafinal about five years ago, when someone went home having lost their Round 1 game. I phoned them when they were late for Round 2. "The pairings said bye, so we thought he was out."
