International Chess Calendars

Post by Nick Burrows » Mon Apr 02, 2018 1:41 pm

Im looking to play in a couple of international tournanents in December/January.
The best calendar of events i can find is https://chess-calendar.eu but do not think it is particularly good as i have noticed a couple of errors, and has no links etc.
I came accross a couple of subscription services, that may be worthwhile joining?!
Does anybody have any suggestions?

The one you've referred to is the most comprehensive one I'm aware of. As it appears to just be pulling information from other websites, I expect it's accuracy is determined by the accuracy of the sites it pulls from. This approach does result in numerous duplications of tournament listings and sections of tournaments being individually listed, both of which detract for it's usefulness. I do wonder how good it is at processing changes on other websites (e.g. if an event is removed from another website, or the dates changed, would the original listing be removed from Chess Calendar)?

When I'm looking for a tournament abroad my preferred approach is to check the FIDE tournament calendar (http://www.fide.com/calendar/tournaments.html), the Chess Results tournament calendar (http://chess-results.com/Kalender.aspx?lan=1), and the websites of the chess federations of countries I'd like to play in if I have anywhere in mind.

I wouldn't subscribe to any site offering tournament listing because I doubt you'd find anything on them you couldn't also find on a free website.

Dr Jan Mazuch organises "Czech Tour" tournaments around the year (not all in the Czech Republic).

You can get on his mailing list by contacting him at j.mazuch@avekont.cz

His Marianske Lazne tournaments (open, masters and perhaps seniors) will probably be held in January 2019 but it's possible they might clash with the start of Gibraltar.
