______________________________________________________________________________

General information: (1) For reasons of space and comfort, maximum entry 40. The organisers reserve the right to decline entry, whether due to this figure having been reached or for any other reason. (2) If a player has not arrived at his/her board 5 minutes after the start of a round s/he will be defaulted and his/her opponent should report to the Controller’s desk for possible re-pairing. (3) Refunds will not be given for non-appearance except where a player notifies his/her withdrawal by email on or before 15 July. (4) In the event of two or more competitors finishing with the same score, prizes will be divided – there will be no tie-breaks. (5) Competitors are eligible to win more than one prize – so, if for example an outright winner is under 10, s/he can expect £125. (6) Competitors will normally play in all six rounds. However, if someone decides to withdraw early, s/he is asked to inform the Controller’s desk before the draw for the next round is made – this avoids inconveniencing others. (7) The Arbiter’s decision in all matters shall be final. (8) Competitors and parents should be aware that results may be published on the ECF website (notably, for grading purposes) and elsewhere and, in entering this tournament, they consent to their data being used for tournament and administration purposes. (9) Competitors and parents should be aware that, although there is a bar at the venue, this will not open until 5.0. It serves a wide range of drinks but only a limited range of food so it is recommended that parents bring some food with them. (10) The international laws of chess shall apply except that, contrary to said laws, a first completed illegal move will result in an Arbiter’s warning but no time adjustment. A second completed illegal move will result in the loss of the game except in the limited circumstances (insufficiency of mating material) set out in the said laws.

I've received a couple of enquiries asking whether payment can be made by means other than cheque. I'm reluctant to plaster bank details all over the internet but anyone preferring to pay by bank transfer (which may be increasingly advisable, to avoid possible postal delays, as 30 July approaches) is welcome to email for the necessary information.

Out of curiosity, why not set up a Paypal account?
Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.

Simply didn't occur to me! But yes, definitely worth thinking about for next time. Thanks for the thought.
