Re: Happy Birthday, Leonard
In the 70s you were motivating my generation with training events, simuls versus the greatest players, and, of course, the famous 'Barden Grades'.
And today, half a century later, we continue to enjoy your eloquent and highly informative journalism.
Thank you Leonard and Happy Birthday!

Happy birthday Leonard - my first prize was the book on the Ruy Lopez, which served me very well.

I believe the monarch doesn't do telegrams (or indeed whatever they have now become) anymore?Stewart Reuben wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2024 1:09 am95 HAPPY RETURNS to LEONARD on his 95th. I look forward to his telegram from the King - if I survive that long!
But yes I too hope that he emulates the late great Yuri Averbakh, and wishing Leonard a happy 95th in the interim.

He has been writing his weekly chess column in The Guardian uninterrupted for, believe us, 69 years – breaking all records for this area of publication. Leonard's observations on the contemporary chess scene are well written and meticulously researched. Each column contains a game and, very enticingly, an instructive chess puzzle. Visit the Guardian chess page on Friday – you will never regret it.

More surprisingly, the Guardian's Football Daily email on Tuesday finished with Happy 95th, Leonard
