HIs CV says it is the 96/97 4NCL
Thanks. If that hasn't been registered then it isn't disputed, it is stone dead
Correct. It's not through lack of trying on the ECF's part to track down title norms unaccounted for :( viewtopic.php?f=31&t=4794&hilit=title+norms

There was a FIDE edict a while back, that all historic Norms had to be registered or lost. I seem to recall Lawrence Cooper doing a lot of investigation into putting some flesh on the bare bones of claims.

The BCM of the period contains the detail round by round results, but it would have been 95-96 as he didn't play the following season The competition was a 13 round marathon, being an all play all of 14 teams.

Charlie's results in 4NCL 95-96 as extracted from the 1996 BCM.

Rd 1 Win v A Summerscale (Slough)
Rd 2 Loss v A Kinsman (Guildford)
Rd 3 Win v J Littlewood (NW Eagles)
Rd 4 Loss v R Phillips (Bristol)
Rd 5 Loss v O'Shaughnessy (Na Fianna)
Rd 6 Loss v M Chandler (BCM)
Rd 7 Loss v C Cobb (Witney)
Rd 8 Loss v B Martin (Wood Green)
Rd 9 Win v S Ziedler (SW Dragons)
Rd 10 Win v A Harley (Croydon)
Rd 11 Loss v J Howell (Midland Monarchs)
Rd 12 Draw v C Pritchett (Hertford)
Rd 13 Loss v P Johnstone (Richmond)

Doesn't look like a Norm performance, even if the then FIDE rules allowed it. He played several non-ENG players, but that's about it.

No IM norm this time either it would seem, as he's lost to a Spanish FM today. But a credible try, especially as he's been doing much more coaching than playing in recent years. One round to go still of course.

" 'Not so fast', the Golux said. 'Half the places I have been to, never were. I make things up. Half the things I say are there cannot be found. When I was young I told a tale of buried gold, and men from leagues around dug in the woods. I dug myself.'
'But why?'
'I thought the tale of buried treasure might be true.'
'You said you made it up.'
'I know I did, but then I didn't know I had. I forget things, too.'
The minstrel felt a vague uncertainty."

b) In chess the Welsh and Scots have their own teams and organisations.
As do the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey.
...
Not entirely correct. Northern Ireland does not have a separate chess team.

There is an all-Ireland chess team (in the Glorney Gilbert etc for juniors, as well as Chess Olympiads), as in cricket and rugby union.

The Isle of Man may have a (mostly German) 4NCL team but it isn't a member of FIDE, is it?
