Re: World Youth Championships
I don't feel inclined to continue this conversation with Natasha as it seems pointless. The online account stories only serve as a distraction to the OTB performances; either tremendous or appalling. It's tempting to ask Natasha why people would open an online account on lichess or chess.com to discredit 'the child' at a time, pre-September 2019, where he hadn't played any rated games or showed any level of ability. I look forward to a post from one or more of his league opponents to confirm, from a post-mortem, that he does indeed play to this level. This would hopefully end the debate but such posts are conspicuous by their absence.

Like most conversations with people who refuse to reveal their identity.Pete Heaven wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2020 9:53 amI don't feel inclined to continue this conversation with Natasha as it seems pointless.

Haha, do - it seems a reasonable supposition that you are having a “conversation”, directly or indirectly, with the man himself! In fact, we’re there any truth in “natasha’s“ postings (and I am restricting the content of what might be true to the possibility that there is an anonymous chess24 account currently performing at 2550+) then I would put money on it. Nobody else would know that detail.Pete Heaven wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2020 9:53 amI don't feel inclined to continue this conversation with Natasha as it seems pointless.
The rest of my money would be tempted towards a theory of there being a school project of some type involved.

I have no idea why people are even contemplating the possibility that "Natasha" is some kind of real and bona fide person.
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

For my part, it's simply because I am suspending my disbelief in all manner of ways connected with this saga.

Natasha: "a direct contact from Chess24 would inform the FIDE officials (me)"
Nick (on Tim's blog): I like to think that if any such FIDE official were to exist, I would know about them.
Natasha: Trust me, if I were to inform you on my identity you would know at least a little on me. But it’s like I said previously, I’m legally not allowed to.
In fact, I was there when you gained your arbitrary title in 2008.
Nick: I don't think you are fooling anyone.

A draw. It would be great to hear about an in-depth and evenly-matched post-mortem, something that has been missing to date.

A “commendable draw” no less, although for Mr Lovelock not his opponent, surprisinglyPete Heaven wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2020 9:02 amA draw. It would be great to hear about an in-depth and evenly-matched post-mortem, something that has been missing to date.

For those not following along:
Highcliffe A v Ringwood (20/01/2020)
Draw against Martin J. Simons (178).

Declan Lovelock results for 2019-20 so far in the Dorset League. (15.5/18)A typically hard fought match with our friends from Ringwood, 3-1 flattered us a bit as the match always seemed in the balance. Declan scored a very commendable draw against Martin on board 1, [...]

Re: World Youth Championships
True: Simons, Martin J : grading profile - graded 207 in July 2003.
(PS. Will the ECF historical grading data still be available after the upcoming changes, and in a similar format?)

For your delectation :
Apparently, the moves from White came at constant intervals regardless of degree of difficulty. The cap was worn I'm reliably informed.

Re: World Youth Championships
Two games in 2020 so far. I’m curious as to whether Dorset Chess will be celebrating Declan’s meteoric rise to the top of the English Under 16 rankings in a week’s time, or whether it will only get a cursory mention?

Re: World Youth Championships
Take a look at
https://www.chess.com/live/game/3493835 ... anlovelock
DLs accuracy is calculated at a mere 99.6% whereas his hapless 1930 opponent managed a trifling 66.2 %
The question is what happened to the .4 % ? Bad day at the office ?
By way of contrast we have :
