I asked Ed Vaizey to support it - http://theyworkforyou.com helps you find your local MP if you want to ask them.

Interesting news on Rachel Reeves today

"Chuka Umunna and Rachel Reeves are among rising stars handed senior positions - as shadow business secretary and shadow chief Treasury secretary."

The Chief Secretary position is usually given to potential future leaders, or trouble makers. She now has to do battle with the ginger rodent (oops, sorry we aren't allowed to say that).

http://grading.bcfservices.org.uk/getre ... ef=132314D for anyone who wants to check her history as a chess player.

The "low 13.." number for grading code suggests that she was playing in 1986 when the codes were first allocated

If you have copies of CHESS going back to the early to mid 90s, when the magazine tried to attract what might politely be called a wider audience, you will find a picture of RR playing Abigail Dyce/Cast (then the best young Welsh woman player) outside a cafe somewhere in London on the front cover.

If I remember rightly, it would have been shortly after CHESS put an acne ridden picture of a 18/19 year old Kramnik on the front cover. There seemed to be some fall out following that and Malcolm is said to have decreed "no more uglies on the front cover"!

(Today, of course Kramnik would make the front cover under any editorial criterion).

With Rachel Reeves's promotion, it's worth noting the rather remarkable fact that the Shadow Cabinet now contains three competent and committed (albeit non-active) chess players - all women!
