I think Michele means Andrew Martin's own website - managed by John Upham?
I think it is more likely that she means this one: http://www.ecfcoaching.org.uk/
Is that not owned and controlled by the ECF then?

Doh! I mean, I don't think so. It was only recently that the ECF actually owned its own domain name and that of the British Championships...

I was at the Edinburgh Club last night arriving just after the juniors

That's excellent Geoff! Although if I'm reading it correctly, the answer on the left board looks wrong?

I'm trying to teach my three daughters that chess is fun (the oldest is 5, then 3-year old twins). Just letting them move wooden pieces round a nice wooden board. Was showing the oldest how pawns worked, and how it was magic that when they get to the end of the board they can turn into any piece. We went through all the pieces (can it turn into a Knight? A Bishop? A King?) then one of the twins asked "Can it turn into... a marble?" at which point we ended up with marbles rolling over the board...

I noticed that as well. He got the four above it right.

It's a pity I never had a chance to see him.
I bet his 1...Qe6 idea was based on White playing the natural 2.h3 Qxh3+.

Also:

I think that is a Sherman tank on the left and a Panzer Mk IV on the right.
He has the ariels coming out of the rear of the tank. That is not correct.

He does however have a good drawing of the half track.

Ariels? Were the Nazis using Shakespearean characters during the desperate last days of the war?

I'm interested to know the answer to this question, because if you go back to the debate (if that's what we can call it) about myself coaching at the British Champs in Sheffield and whether or not I should be allowed to advertise on the forum in case people got confused with my academy and the ecf etc.

I was given endless grief about using the ECF to promote my academy, when I wasn't doing anything of the sort and that it was totally against the rules to do this and the ECF should not be seen to be advertising and individual organisation. I was even described as a "rogue trader".

Therefore, if this is indeed Andrew Martin's personal site as Adam Raoof has stated and the website address is ECF coaching, then does this not fall under the same category? On the front page, Andrew Martin's name is clickable to his academy's website - is this not a lot more directly abusing his position in the ECF rather than what I did? (send an email to my personal contacts asking if they want to be coached at the British Champs)

I have taken the ECF Coaching site off-line whilst I update it for the new Manager of Coaching, David Levens. :D

No, I will keep it exactly the same or revert to a Manager of Coaching from many years ago.

If I re-upload the old content next week sometime then I guess no-one will notice.

I receive instruction from Phil Ehr and David Levens but I will leave it you to decide how I will proceed.

The domain was registered in 2006 when the ECF used Demon Internet as its only paid-for ISP and I wanted to use Zen Internet as they have ( and continue to be an excellent service provider).

The ECF has now migrated to Zen Internet (guess who recommended that?) and I have also recommended that the site be migrated to the ECF hosting domain along with the CoM site.

This will allow the Office to upkeep the coaches and CoE database via the admin GUI.

There is no reason not to do this and I will reduce my hosting and domain name expenses.

Any coach listed was provided with a link to their personal coaching web site if they had one. Of course, most didn't but I tried to research each coach as best I could simply to provide more information for prospective students.

I also provided a clickable map of all coaches so as to make it easier to locate one. if this is seen as inappropriate then let me know.

Are you at the 4NCL this weekend Sabrina? We can discuss this face to face.
