Hi Charlie,
This is really sweet.
I think your chess variants idea is great regarding a different type of chess (where you can take kings). I hope that you continue to promote mainsteam chess to your juniors as well. You could bring your juniors to compete at EPSCA tournaments as 'Northumberland' (I am not sure if that junior organisation exists yet) and it would give them a chance to play against other juniors from all over the country.
Always good to see juniors enjoying and playing chess!
All the best,
Krishna

Hi Krishna,
Northumberland has a strong and thriving junior body.
Charlie ran a rival event on the same day as the recent EPSCA Primary Team heats in that area, thus depriving himself of the chance for all of the top players in the area to compete against his kids.

only?Charlie Storey is a local Chess master from the town of Whitley bay. He is the north-east of England's only home grown chess master
What about Hawkins, Bhatia, Eggleston, Gawain Jones even?

Hi Alex,
Sorry! Didn't realise that Northumberland already has a strong junior body. Maybe you could team up with Charlie for next year if you liaise and all the juniors can play together?
Charlie does seem keen to coach juniors and I have found that if you have some such person within a county junior chess organisation, the junior organisation does do well. Notable recent example is David Levens at Nottingham.
Just a thought. If you already have someone, please ignore this as I do not mean to tread on any toes!
It is interesting, as I always see the same teams doing well at EPSCA competition and would like to see things evening out a little. I think it makes for better competition if more teams have coaches and will strengthen chess in England in the long term.
Kind regards,
Krishna
