When Peter played for England in Montenegro he wanted to play in the rapidplay team event on the rest day most of the other english players did not want to any way i went to see the organizers of the event and there where more than happy to help and got local players to help make a team so that Peter could play chess.

Would it be a good idea in future to talk to the people runing the event in advance to see if it is at all possible to not have players from the some team playing each other and if a player must have a bye can a filler be found? at least the player gets a game. I know it may not be possible with the way pairing are done but it can not hurt to let event organizers know of your concerns.

The reports and pictures of the event have been very interesting the English team have some very good coaches with them i remember Neil in Montenegro with his signed chess board has he brought it with him this time?

Good luck to all the players for the rest of the event.
when you are successful many losers bark at you.

If you're going to take every conceivable opportunity to malign me, regardless of what I've actually said, you might at least take the trouble to spell my name correctly.

On that note I give up.

I do agree, that it is perhaps a good idea to clarify these sorts of things in advance.

It is very likely if we send larger squads (now and in the future), that they will be playing each other more and more often. It is obviously not ideal, but it is likely to happen.

If it is within the rules of the competition (to pair members of the same Federation against each other), I think that the best way to deal with it is to talk to all the children beforehand and explain this to them so that they are mentally prepared to play one of their own and cope with the outcome.

This is not always easy, but it is all part of the 'game'.

The Kosintseva sisters have played this game five times now, if I'm counting correctly.

More from Hillary.

http://www.englishchess.org.uk/?p=18964 (What has Tai done to his hand?)

Very impressed that these pictures and reports are getting on the ECF website so quickly and most seem to be outside office hours. I think thanks are due to both the reporting team in Romania and office staff here at home. Loz Cooper also doing his brilliant job and finding time to put the results and pairings up on the forum. I must be doing something wrong, I'm going to each age group in the 'RESULTS' link on the championship website and then copy/pasting each individual result/pairing into a word document. Is there a way of getting what Loz posts by going to a 'get ENG' info all in one go?
All the best for the next round. A "well done" to Joshua for winning his last 3 and to Joseph & Phoebe for their last 2 game wins.

That's the only way and it's very time consuming, but I have to do it for my four students so I then do it for everyone elses. I believe there's a 24 hour delay on posting on Chess-results but when they do appear you can at least view all the info here:

Latest from Hillary:-

Well – all but two results are in. On our best day yet we can report 9 wins and 5 draws so far. That places Akito Oyama and Callaghan McCarty-Snead on 4 points and Joshua Altman on 3½.
Wins were earned by Akito, Callaghan, Jake Liang (in a quick tactical game), Luke Remus-Elliot, Tai Remus-Elliot, Imogen Camp, Anna Purvis, Jennifer Neil and Meytal Cohen, whose game will appear here soon – her coach, Sabrina Chevannes, said it was ‘really well played!’
Draws were achieved by Joshua Altman, Jeff Tomy, Ananth Vijayakumar, Max Elliott and Samuel McConnell.

In a candid moment, Callaghan gave a ‘celebrity radio interview’ to Romanian Kiss FM! When asked if he had had a chance to see the city, he answered an honest “No!”
Pizza for everyone – we are all out, players, parents and coaches, for a special team treat this evening

LATE NEWS – one more win for Joseph Friar, just arriving for his pizza …

Very sad as he has only lost one, but I was braced for it as he approached the top boards. Curious to see his game. Thanks for the update.
