This is now the holiday season in Scotland and hotels are less willing to do deals in June/July than they seem to be in England.

Alex

That was exactly the feedback I got from discussions with the Puma Scottish hotels. All three of Troon, Stlirling and Edinburgh claimed to be able to fill their boots with tourist trade during the summer months, and had no incentive to come anywhere near the usual 4NCL rates.

Daventry and Hinckley Island don't seem to be quite such meccas for the great British public in the summer. :D

Round 4 Glorney Results:

Ireland 3 Wales 2
Scotland 2 England 3

Scores: 1 England 15, Wales 9, Ireland 8.5, Scotland 7.5.

Sadly no round 3 or 4 results from the Gilbert & Robinson and nothing yet for round 4 of the Stokes.

It's a shame there are no updates on the other tournaments during the rounds on the official website.
Only people at the venue know what is really going on, which is a shame as it's a prestigious tournament followed by many.

You're kidding? June and July us holiday season in Scotland? When is holiday season in the rest of the UK? :D

My point is that there are 3 Puma hotels in Scotland but there a damn site more non Puma hotels. Not all are located in tourist hotbeds. You need to look in the Scottish equivalent of Daventry.

A primary economic reason for the De Vere chain and to a lesser extent the Puma/Barcelo chain is that they provide venues for corporate, business and professional training. As such they are busy during the working week and outside of July/August. Chess events looking for weekends or periods outside the training high season can get a decent price.

Sean,

If there is a Scottish equivalent to Daventry then I have yet to find it. Ayrshire, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Central and Fife are all heavily into tourists at that time. These are the areas where the bigger hotels are.
CS has approached and been approached by a number of hotels, but like Mike Truran we have been unable to strike a sufficiently encouraging deal. Even student accommodation seems more expensive in Scotland than in England at this time of year. July in Scotland is the peak holiday time, a month earlier than England.

Scotland lead Ireland 2.5-1.5 and England 2-0 up against Wales in the Glorney. I hear that England lead 1.5-0.5 in the Gilbert with board 2 still in play.

England 3.5 - 1.5 Wales
Scotland 3.5 - 1.5 Ireland

Glorney scored going into final round:

1st England 18.5
2nd Scotland 11
3rd Wales 10.5
4th Ireland 10

England win the Glorney, very close battle for 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Any news on the Robinson and Stokes?
