European Youth - Prague

Post by Andrew Camp » Thu Aug 16, 2012 10:54 am

I'm heading out there today as HoD for the Wales team but just wanted to say, very much looking forward to meeting up with players, parents, coaches and officials of England, Scotland and Ireland and hope we can all have a superb experience, make new friends and shine a fantastic light on junior chess in our home Federations.

Safe journeys to all involved.

Everyone has gone in for the first round from team England/Wales/Scotland as far as I can tell. Can confirm that the food is interesting...:)

Thank you to Debbie, Phil, Jim and everyone involved with organising such a large group.

It is a nice hotel and the accommodation is similar to Premier Inn in terms of size of rooms. The hotel itself is very large as it seems to have lots of large halls contained within. Lovely facilities like swimming pool, jacuzzi and green landscaped gardens all around. It is great that we do not have to travel anywhere to play the chess as it is on site.

Weather is comfortable and I am told much cooler than Greece. Prague itself is beautiful and the people are very friendly. Underground and buses very easy and lots to see and do.

Must have missed you, Krishna but look out for a large, fat, bald bloke in a Welsh shirt tonight.

Just chilling up in my room night now after Imogen's game.

Zhou v Franklin is on the live boards, as is Amy Hoare in the U16 girls. Tough for Hoare, meeting the 2232-rated Hungarian top seed.

Thanks for the link Leonard; it seems Amy has a decent enough position out of the opening.

Nice Guardian article too. 1990 was indeed a good year for chess player births; you might also have included Ian Nepomniachtchi and Anna Muzychuk, two more who could soon reach for the summit.

When the print version of your article is cut as regularly as mine is, you become cautious about using Vachier-Lagrave and Nepomniachtchi in the same sentence......

Amy has the edge on the board, but 26 moves to make in 20 minutes. She missed a chance to go a pawn up by 15 Be4 with Rxb7 and Bxc6.
