great win for Akshaya. Matthew made it tough as he could for his opponent and hopefully will be better rewarded tomorrow.

13 from 21 so already our second best day with two still to come (Charlie and Matthew). Sacha won, and Rufus and Cosima drew.

and Charlie won as well (after almost 5 and three-quarter hours)! An excellent day for the team, 15 points from 23 and back to 50% overall.

Individual scores after 8 rounds:
Akshaya Kalaiyalahan 6
Matthew Wadsworth 5.5
Sacha Brozel 5
Brian Tarhon 5
Charlie McLaren 5
Ravi Haria 4.5
Anita Somton 4.5
Alex Golding 4
Akito Oyama 4
William Claridge-Hansen 4
Adam A Taylor 4
Oskar Anton Hackner 4
Cosima Keen 4
Harry Grieve 3.5
Peter Andreev 3.5
John Fraser 3.5
Peter Batchelor 3.5
Laura Davidson 3.5
Amy Hoare 3.5
Adam C Taylor 3
David Redman 2.5
Rufus Duff 2.5
Jude Lenier 2.5

Provisional pairings for the final round are at http://chess-results.com/tnr106043.aspx ... =30&wi=984. No intra-team pairings I am pleased to say.

Games start at 12.30pm UK time (except for the U10s which start at 1pm). Akshaya once again on the live board, going for a place in the prizes. Prizes are only for the top 5 it would seem (rather than the usual top 8 or top 10).

I'll risk incurring Neville's wrath by posting here (see other thread. My word Neville, what would you have said in 1993, if we had an internet and English Chess Forum back then?)

Early days obviously, but I think that Akshaya stands a bit better and the position should suit her patient style.

The opening was from the Hebden repertoire, but Mark's opponents generally preferred 7. .. e6 or 7 . ..Na6

It looks like a good game. I think White must stand better, but I think whoever plays best will win (I don't think we'll see a draw). Good stuff.

White does look better, with play on both sides of the board.
