Each September, before the start of the chess season, the Briant Poulter League (Surrey Secondary Schools) organises a Jamboree on the first Friday of the Autumn term. This year saw an increase in entries, with 16 teams of eight players from 10 schools taking part. It was decided to split the entries into two sections, Major and Minor. Each section therefore had 64 players, each playing 2 games. It was very encouraging to have so many secondary school players willing to give up most of their Friday evening to play chess (the event finished at 8pm). The results were as follows:

Major Section
1 Hampton A 14½/16;
2 Wilson's A 11½;
3 RGS Guildford 10½;
4 Wilson’s B 8;
5 KCS Wimbledon 7;
6 Whitgift 6;
7 Trinity 3½;
8 Wilson’s C 3

Minor Section
1 Sutton GS 12/16;
2 Hampton B 11;
3 Reigate GS 10;
4 Wallington CGS A 8½;
5 The Hawthorns 8;
6 Wilson’s D 7½;
7 Wilson’s E 7;
8 Wallington B 0

Congratulations to Hampton for their emphatic victory.
Many thanks to Alan Thorn for organising all the pairings and to Wilson's School for hosting the event.
