Can anyone shed any light on what is going on here :

http://www.ecfchess.com/

Quoting verbatim :
THIS WEBSITE IS NOW INACTIVE,
AS DESPITE REPEATED REQUESTS,
TOURNAMENT CONTROLLER RICHARD HADDRELL
REFUSES TO SEND ME ANY RESULTS - CS

I assume that CS is Claire.

This is very embarassing. Can anything be done about this?

I really don't understand what is going on - why is it anything to do with Claire. Isn't Peter Purland now in charge of junior chess?

Going through the ecf website we get

The ECF has been fortunate to secure the sponsorship of Yateley Manor School http://www.yateleymanor.com.

The competition is under way with an increased entry. Details to follow.

Good to see the ECF keeping sponsors happy with lots of good publicity

Matthew,

Again, yet another example of the sponsor not getting mentioned.

However, It gets much better than that : the local tournament controller for Yateley Manor either defaulted them or wanted to default them when their staff member contact was not in contact for personal reasons. Now, THAT IS CLEVER! ADM knows the full details...

The event is up and running with increased entry again.one semi finals are being played this month. The last chance saloon's are being held on 7th and 8th February.

I always use the SCCU website for the results - all last year's results can be found at http://www.sccu.ndo.co.uk/0708/times.htm

Agreed there are no details of this year's event (e.g. list of schools in zones) yet.

Is it now anything to do with the ECF?

Neill,
Does this suggest that the sponsor for last season was The Sunday Times as it was when I competed in 1976?

That is quite a long running sponsorship deal.

Now, it is just that many people remember it as the (Sunday) Times.
Even so it was a long period of sponsorship (over 30 years, I think) until the Times stopped sponsoring it

ecfchess was meant to be the national schools website. I wanted to continue to post the results of the tournament after my resignation to ensure the whole tournament was covered, but Richard refused to send me any results, despite repeated emails.

I told the office that I had changed the website.

If there's a link through to another website, let me know and I'll change ecfchess. I won't be renewing the website and it will deactivate in february.

Details of this year's tournament (which schools are in which zones etc) can now be found at http://www.sccu.ndo.co.uk/schoolschamps.htm

That's a lot of things all at once. To start with Claire's web page which seems to have sparked the topic off:
Claire Summerscale wrote:I wanted to continue to post the results of the tournament after my resignation to ensure the whole tournament was covered, but Richard refused to send me any results, despite repeated emails.
Claire's page has been there for months and relates to last season. Claire's account - both here and in the web page - is, well, a bit selective. It's true I wouldn't send results direct to her after her resignation, as I had done while she was in post. But I told her (repeatedly) where she could find them. The SCCU website was still covering the tournament, and Claire was at liberty to take results from it if she wished to keep her site up to date.

Claire's remarks were not thought wholly necessary when they came to the ECF's attention, and the link to that page was deleted from the ECF website. But the ECF doesn't control that domain. I believe Claire does.
Neill Cooper wrote:Details of this year's tournament (which schools are in which zones etc) can now be found at http://www.sccu.ndo.co.uk/schoolschamps.htm
Yes, belatedly. I was going to post them yesterday (honest) but got sidetracked into another thread on this Forum. Updating will continue in earnest as the Zone results come in. (There are a few Group results already.)
Is it now anything to do with the ECF?
Yes. The Yateley is very much an ECF event and the responsibility of Peter Purland. If it's reported on the SCCU site that is a matter of convenience. The organiser happens to have hands-on access to the SCCU site. But you'll find a link on the ECF site as well, in the Junior section.
Does ["times" in the address] suggest that the sponsor for last season was The Sunday Times as it was when I competed in 1976?
- No, it is just that many people remember it as the (Sunday) Times.
They do. In fact, when we lost the Times sponsorship some years ago, people went on saying "the Times" if only because everyone knew what it meant. ("ECF Schools? ECF Schools what?") I did it myself. Not any more. It's the Yateley Manor now, though I admit I shorten it to Yateley.

It should be noted that the competition has a new address this year: http://www.sccu.ndo.co.uk/schoolschamps.htm. The old address was retained for convenience when we lost the Times sponsorship, but is no longer appropriate.

John's first sentence has me completely baffled. On his other point: he wouldn't expect me to discuss a particular case, but no one has been defaulted.

Richard,

Can you comment on the possibility (or otherwise) that the sponsor (Yateley Manor) was to be defaulted by the local controller?

I found this to be incredible if it true.

Maybe this goof has been avoided?

John - Are you suggesting that a team from the sponsors school should be exempt from the rules of the competition?

Why would defaulting Yateley be "incredible" and why would it have been a goof if they had been in breach of the rules?
