European Youth Team Chess Championships 2016
The European Youth Team Chess Championships take place next month in Celje, Slovenia. The event is a 7 round FIDE rated tournament for girls and boys aged U18.
England will be represented in the Open section by a team of 4 players: Pavel Asenov, Akito Oyama, FM Adam C Taylor and FM Matthew Wadsworth. I'll be accompanying as (non-playing, clearly!) captain, and will post regular updates once the event is underway.
The official event website is http://www.chess.si/eytcc2016/default.asp, from where live games should be available.
The first round is on 10 July, starting at 3pm local time, and the final round is on 16 July.
Pairings and results will be at http://chess-results.com/tnr227360.aspx ... =30&wi=821
The team are grateful for the support provided by the ECF, and in particular Traci Whitfield.

Re: European Youth Team Chess Championships 2016
Team England has safely arrived at the Hotel Celeia, after a somewhat early start to get to Luton Airport for our 0720 flight. Administration and logistics all so far very efficient. Hotel rooms a bit basic but absolutely fine. Captain's meeting this evening, and first round tomorrow....

Re: European Youth Team Chess Championships 2016
Round 1 starts at 3pm local time (2pm UK) today, England will be playing Israel (the 3rd seeds), with England having white on board 1. Board pairings have yet to be confirmed; but since Israel's lowest rated player has a higher rating than our highest rated, we know that all the games will be challenging!
From a look at the tournament hall, most if not all games will be broadcast live, I assume via the event website as mentioned earlier in this topic.
Mood in the camp is very positive, the boys (who all know each other from previous international trips and/or domestic competition) are bonding well.

Games underway, unfortunately at the moment Chess24 hasn't quite got the right names on the right boards, nor the right moves. Apart from that all good....

Live games have started but the much-vaunted Chess 24 currently has the names hopelessly mixed up, with Wadsworth currently showing as Board 3 for Israel, and no moves at all on Board 2. What a shambles!

Thanks Leonard. Chessbomb does at least have the right names & colours. However, it doesn't have the right moves in all the games - (for example as those who have seen my photo on Twitter, Matthew played 1. c4 not 1. Nf3)....I will alert the organisers....Leonard Barden wrote:Live games have started but the much-vaunted Chess 24 currently has the names hopelessly mixed up, with Wadsworth currently showing as Board 3 for Israel, and no moves at all on Board 2. The games have changed several times but at least we've switched from white to black in the game where black has an extra pawnJim Wadsworth wrote:Thanks Leonard. Live boards now looking correct, with the exception of that for Pavel's gameJim Wadsworth wrote:Games underway, unfortunately at the moment Chess24 hasn't quite got the right names on the right boards, nor the right moves. Apart from that all good....

Am happy to report that we are indeed black in that game (Akito's)LawrenceCooper wrote:The games have changed several times but at least we've switched from white to black in the game where black has an extra pawn

I should add that the reason there are no live games showing for matches 5 & 6 (respectively Slovenia A vs Czech Republic, and Poland vs Slovenia B) is that they aren't being played on digital boards.Jim Wadsworth wrote: Live boards now looking correct, with the exception of that for Pavel's game

Hi Jim
Live feed seems a total disaster area. No moves for half an hour on boards 1,2 and 4, board 3 still frozen in the opening.
Can you keep us up to date with a brief running commentary on what is actually happening?

Re: European Youth Team Chess Championships 2016
Yes live boards seem to be all stuck. Just took a break from watching the cycling and/or tennis to pop back into the tournament hall....all four games still going. Akito retains his pawn advantage and - at risk of invoking the commentator's curse - his position looks quite comfortable. Pavel defending against a big attack, but from what I could see, Pavel's pieces seem well co-ordinated for that defence. Hard to assess Adam's game (in part because of physical layout of hall), but he (like Matthew) is behind on the clock. Matthew's position is worse, but not decisively so from what I have seen.
