Schools run an internal Blitz championships and then send either a school team, or just their champion, to the national finals.

Several schools have expressed interest in this new event, as the map shows: http://englishchess.org.uk/NSCC/201617-2/blitz-201617/ More entrants would be very welcome. The venue, The King's School Grantham, is very accessible by train and is close to the A1. A time limit of 3 minutes with a 2 second increment per move should be very exciting!

I ran it at my school this afternoon 30 played and we got through 7 rounds in 90 minutes (thanks to Swiss perfect). No disputes, and lots of enjoyment. When I asked if they would like another Blitz event they said yes! A great way to promote chess in schools.

For a report and photos from the ECF National Schools Individual and Team Blitz, see: http://englishchess.org.uk/NSCC/201617-2/blitz-201617/
Players behaved impeccably, despite the fast pace (3 minutes plus 2 seconds a move). Most participants played twelve games of Blitz spread across the two competitions. Many thanks to all who played, supervised or organised these Championships.
