Entries are CLOSED for the Southern Semi, which now has a colossal 92 teams taking part-276 players. This has to be some kind of record for a female only event in the UK.

Equipment from three counties is being shipped in.

With all this demand and talent , what the ECF needs is a Manager of Girls Chess. Who will step forward?
Well they had one, but she wasn't retained after the 2014 ECF elections. The post has remained vacant ever since albeit it is advertised here: http://www.englishchess.org.uk/about/vacancies/ The "Director of Women's Chess has been vacant" since Sarah stood down and the post of "Manager of Women's Chess" isn't mentioned anywhere so I guess that the director role replaced it.
For information:
The manager of girls' chess is not the same as the manager of women's chess. There was until about a year ago a distinct Manager of Girl's chess.
As I understand it the role was not discontinued but the incumbent resigned (for personal reasons of time as I believe). Incidentally she was a he.
Yes I'm aware of that, I created the post  I had forgotten though that there had been someone after the person I was referring to so thanks for that clarification.

Thank you Neill.

A great event to be sure and growing , but I am
not fully satisfied . Draw a line horizontally across the country north of Oxford and we can see why.
Andrew Walker's excellent NSCC participation maps here show a similar North/South divide in the U19 Open. Since most teams are run by teachers it might reflect that outside the South East they are less willing to help with chess fixtures.

I expect that there are various reasons, but could it be explained at least to a large degree by travel times to the venues?
Travel time to the venue weighted by population density would give a similar looking map, I think.
