National School Chess Championships 2017/18

Post by Neill Cooper » Mon Sep 18, 2017 11:36 am

Entries are now being taken for the U19 National School Chess Championships
The Regional stage (like the Times Tournament Zones) is in the spring term, but schools need to qualify to play there.
Strong schools qualify automatically on last year's performance or average grade over 125 or performance at yesterday's Eton tournament. All other teams either play in an after school event or local league. So it is suitable for all secondary schools (as well as any primaries who want to enter).
Closing date for leagues is 30th September.

The deadline for league entries is only five days away (30 September) Teams can still enter Afternoon Qualifiers after this, or even just play as one of the eight teams at the Repechage at University College London, 2-5 p.m. on Sunday 3 December (a day later than previously advertised).

Entries now stand at 116 teams from 70 schools, so we may exceed last year's total of 130 teams from 92 schools.

Entry is free, thanks to generous sponsorship from Winchester College. Enter at: http://englishchess.org.uk/NSCC/u19-open-2/

The deadline for entering a local school league is Saturday 30th September.
After that date you can still enter a Regional qualifier, but only if it is not full up.
Entry for the U19 Open event is now up to 129 teams from 80 schools.
Details and entry form at http://englishchess.org.uk/NSCC/u19-open-2/

Many thanks to Winchester College for their continued sponsorship which means entry is free.

Now up to 153 teams from 98 schools. The largest entry in seven years, but there is still the opportunity for more teams to enter at http://englishchess.org.uk/NSCC/u19-open-2/

For the past entry figures see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_S ... ampionship which was largely taken from Richard Haddrell's list at http://www.sccu-chess.com/archive/1516/schoolshist.htm
