Also in Under 10 Open Nishchal is in with a chance of finishing 3rd= (although looks like a tough draw)

I didn't think he could make the top three but 7/9 would still be a good result.David Shepherd wrote: ↑Tue Aug 28, 2018 8:05 pmAlso in Under 10 Open Nishchal is in with a chance of finishing 3rd= (although looks like a tough draw)

7/9 would be a great result, surely?!
It does look a tough draw. I happen to have seen Marco's win in round seven. Here it is, and I have deliberately omitted Black's last move, so that if anyone puts it in game format, viewers can work it out for themselves:
1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 a6 4. Ba4 Nf6 5. O-O Be7 6. Re1 d6 7. c3 O-O 8. h3
b5 9. Bb3 Nb8 10. d4 Nbd7 11. Nbd2 Bb7 12. a4 c5 13. d5 c4 14. Bc2 Nc5 15. Qe2
g6 16. axb5 axb5 17. Rxa8 Bxa8 18. b4 cxb3 19. Nxb3 Nfxe4 20. Bxe4 Nxb3 21. Bh6
Re8 22. Bd3 Bf8 23. Be3 e4 24. Qd1 exf3 25. Qxb3 Re5 26. Bxb5 Bxd5 27. c4 Ba8
28. g3 Qc8 29. Kh2 --- 0-1

Re: European Youth Championships 2018
That has guaranteed fourth for Akshaya, and maybe as high as second. The only player potentially in the tie on 7 points who she has played is Obolentseva (they drew in round 3). The good news is that Afonasieva-Obolentseva looks dead drawn, so Akshaya looks like ending up in a tie for 2nd or 3rd with Kiolbasa. How does the tiebreak work? From looking at chess-results.com, Akshaya was behind Kiolbasa on the tiebreak that will probably be used to separate them, so looks like third? (Though only if board 2 is drawn!)Mick Norris wrote: ↑Wed Aug 29, 2018 12:57 pmAkshaya won; board 1 drawn in 4 movesLawrenceCooper wrote: ↑Tue Aug 28, 2018 7:30 pmPotential English medal chances in the last round:

EDIT: Face-palm: literally, as I was typing that, Black played a poor move on board 2.

Re: European Youth Championships 2018
I decided not to risk a comment on board 2 though it still looks like a draw at move 70 and is now agreed drawn at move 76
Impressive for Akshaya (ranked 15) to finish =2, 3rd on tiebreak

Re: European Youth Championships 2018
The two Russians have drawn on board 2, so a medal for Akshaya! Probably bronze judging by the tie-break scores coming into the round.
I suspect 76. Ke4 might not have been played.

Great news about Akshaya, sadly Yashasvini & Nishchal lost their last round games so we will have to settle for one medal.

A superb 2246 rating performance by Aditya Munshi, gaining 115 points. This, hot on the heels of his draw from a winning position vs the world Junior champion. Impressive stuff

Looks from the photo on the ECF website that Akshaya got more than a medalChristopher Kreuzer wrote: ↑Wed Aug 29, 2018 1:20 pmThat is excellent! Hopefully confirmation soon as to what medal Akshaya has won.
