I didn't think he could make the top three but 7/9 would still be a good result.

It does look a tough draw. I happen to have seen Marco's win in round seven. Here it is, and I have deliberately omitted Black's last move, so that if anyone puts it in game format, viewers can work it out for themselves:

Akshaya won; board 1 drawn in 4 moves

That has guaranteed fourth for Akshaya, and maybe as high as second. The only player potentially in the tie on 7 points who she has played is Obolentseva (they drew in round 3). The good news is that Afonasieva-Obolentseva looks dead drawn, so Akshaya looks like ending up in a tie for 2nd or 3rd with Kiolbasa. How does the tiebreak work? From looking at chess-results.com, Akshaya was behind Kiolbasa on the tiebreak that will probably be used to separate them, so looks like third? (Though only if board 2 is drawn!)

EDIT: Face-palm: literally, as I was typing that, Black played a poor move on board 2.

I decided not to risk a comment on board 2 though it still looks like a draw at move 70 and is now agreed drawn at move 76

Impressive for Akshaya (ranked 15) to finish =2, 3rd on tiebreak

The two Russians have drawn on board 2, so a medal for Akshaya! Probably bronze judging by the tie-break scores coming into the round.

I suspect 76. Ke4 might not have been played.

Great news about Akshaya, sadly Yashasvini & Nishchal lost their last round games so we will have to settle for one medal.

A superb 2246 rating performance by Aditya Munshi, gaining 115 points. This, hot on the heels of his draw from a winning position vs the world Junior champion. Impressive stuff
