I don't like avatars so they are turned off - do you have a reason to need them?
Cheers

That doesn't seem very democratic for a forum : do the views of the users matter?

I have already had requests to turn off smilies let alone avatars, do you feel they enhance things in some way then?
Do you allow them on the forum you run?
I await a general consesus from users then...
Cheers

Why not turn off signatures, locations, URLs, email aliases? Do they enhance anything? Who knows...

I checked the excellent Atticus forum where they are turned on but hardly used and then I checked your own Andrew Martin Chess Acedmy forum where the option isn't even turned on and decided to also leave it off for now

Avatars are enabled on the AMCA Forum and have been since we started it. Not all users have given them self one. Check my posts for example. The Avatar is

Also check
http://www.borderleague.org.uk/ and select "Forum" from the menu.

I think that avatars which relate to a member's standing in the chess world e.g. a club or county logo or badge, should be allowed. That way, they add to the profile information supplied.
I don't see any need for smileys on a board of this nature - to be honest, the only one that I can think will ever be appropriate in a post is the 'rolling eyes' one whenever Ilyumzhinov drastically shortens FIDE time-limits.
Signatures just get in the way.

I have added some samples and also John's request into the available list, feel free to send me any images that you want to include
They need to be a maximum of 80x80 in size

Hi all,
If the only avatars are hats then you might as well turn them off. They are a bit cack aren't they?
If you stipulate an avatar size then you can allow whatever people want.

Not the best no but all I had time to lookup yesterday to be honest
