Could you not just create a new login? And maybe add something to the signature of your new login to say what you've done?

You'd be cross if you were locked out of your account and the admins told you to just create a new one. You'd expect the admins to help you get the old one back. Why is that?

Changed although why you had a fake username is another question.

Excuse me, a FAKE username? You're calling the name on my birth certificate fake? Retract that remark please.

I just helped out so a calmer answer as to why would have been more appropriate?

Don't lecture me on what's appropriate; you literally just called my previous name fake. Retract that remark please.

Carl, you surely didn't expect that you would do this person a favour and not catch a load of abuse for it?

What abuse? Show me the abuse? The only term of abuse here has been "fake".

Chris has got rather carried away, but in fairness Carl was to my mind a little harsh. It's perfectly respectable for people to have professional names that differ from their birth names and Chris' signature right from the start has given a quite adequate and open explanation of his situation. Though his posts are mainly recent he has been a member since 2010 and it seems reasonable therefore that he may wish to change an initial registration, which at the time was appropriate, to what is appropriate now.
