The Millfield Rapidplay will be held on Sunday 27th January. We had a record 64 players this year and we are hoping for even better in 2013.

The Millfield Rapidplay will be held on Sunday 27th January. We had a record 64 players this year and we are hoping for even better in 2013.

Will it be ECF rapid play graded?

The event has never been graded, but obviously with the changing rules this year we had to look at the situation afresh. The tournament has always attracted an interesting mix of players, often very strong at the top, but with a lot of infrequent or players returning to chess after a long break. Looking at last year's entry, of the top 30 only 1 wasn't a silver member or above (and a surprising number were platinum members). However, of the 30 lowest graded players 27 were not silver members or above. I don't want to put these players off by charging them an extra £6. So, it will not be ECF graded again.

Beautiful weather here, no snow or even a frost, I'm sure that will continue for the next couple of weeks, so a perfect time to pop down to the West Country for a bit of chess.
