“London is up there with Madrid or Milan, but Glasgow’s unique, along with Liverpool and Newcastle.” George Graham on local derbies.

WEEK 37 HEADLINES (Just one week to go!)

It's not over until the fat person sings. Harley Hotspurs still hold pole position, but they lose ground to the IM underdog and the fast finishing Westbury Wanderers. Thrilling!

Mark Leonard's 72 makes him this week's top dog.

Kishan Pattni's f4 are in the lavatory with a mediocre 24

It looks all over at the bottom. Mike Lamb will get the spoon and Ihor Lewyk will take home the fork. Ben Edgell needn't have bothered!

"We played under the sort of pressure we've played all season, albeit a different sort of pressure" Sam Allardyce, Talking Sense

HEADLINES: WEEK 38 (Thank god that's over!)

Gaffer Andrew Harley saves the best to last and his top score of the week wins the Premier Chess Fantasy Football Championship 2012/13. Congratulations!

Richard Pert hangs on to the runner-up prize, holding the fast finishing Mark Leonard to four points.

In some of the mighty mini-leagues Dominic Rabbitte pips bother Liam by a measly six points. And on the Much-Binding-in-the-Marsh battle it finished:
1 HolyBeardhair Dave Ledger 58 2,079
2 The Stokey Hot Shots John Reid 43 2,059
3 Jalapeno Holloway Simon Ansell 46 2,002

As we have known since Christmas Mike Lamb takes the Wooden Spoon and Ihor Lewyk gets the Plastic Fork. Ben Edgell takes home the "what a waste of time" trophy.

The new season approaches - the League has been renewed for 2013-2014.

If you played last season you will be automatically admitted.

If not the join code is 535671-132873

Two simple rules; one team per player; real names please for managers no pseudonyms.

Thanks to David Gilbert in advance for his coverage!

I think I've learnt how to do better this time. Pick your best 11 and get 3 of the cheapest subs you can. I always went for half decent subs to plug the gaps but it meant i wasn't maximising my points per week. I've also noticed that some who really paid attention each week were not afraid to take the penalty points if additional transfers would likely garner more points. Logical in theory, but I imagine most were happy just to check in from time to time to see how they are doing. I doubt my diligence will improve this season...

I hope David continues his updates. I really liked them.

Additional substitutions are only valuable if you're going to gain 4 points more than the other player would have scored.

You also need to forward plan in order to get your team as many playing minutes as possible. We've no idea what starting XIs will be at this stage of the season though, so I've selected my initial XI to have as many minutes as possible. (I chose 3000 as a minimum for the sake of picking something.) Dzeko was a bad pick last season. Although he had a very high points/game, the fact he had comparatively few minutes meant he was not someone you could pick.

I'm convinced that the start of a season is tantamount to a lottery. You don't know who will do well compared with the previous season, due to numerous changes, such as the manager (and his playing style) or any new transfers coming in. For example, Demba Ba was great at Newcastle, but was poor when he went to Chelsea to play on the bench.

I've been thinking about statistics for this, and I reckon points per minute per pricepoint, subject to playing a minimum of 60 minutes/game, is a valuable statistic.

Hi Simon. You register and select your team; once this is done you apply to join a Private League. The joining code for Premier Chess is as shown above 535671-132873; that gets you in!

I'll do this again this season if at least five people say they read it!

"Neither team has really taken the baton by the scruff of the neck and put their stamp on it" - Nigel Worthington mixing it.

Lawrence Cooper's Wengerboys are the first week's top dogs with 95. Defending champion Andrew Harley isn't far behind with 83.

In the lavatory this week it's Conor Murphy's Fulham Boys with a wee-wee 35. Last year's wooden-spoonist Mike Lamb avoids last place for the first time since November 2012.

Ben Edgell's already on one - he'll probably give up now!

Congratulations to Sabrina Chevannes in naming her team - obviously fond of cats.
