WIM title for Sabrina Chevannes

Post by LawrenceCooper » Tue Sep 03, 2013 7:25 am

Congratulations to Sabrina Chevannes who made her third and final WIM norm, took her rating over 2200, which means she has qualified for the WIM title, and made her first WGM norm in the US Masters: http://www.ncchess.org/live/us_masters_ ... dings.html

Very impressive. She's clearly playing well!

She finished on 5/9 in the US Masters, with only one defeat and finishing ahead of several GMs, including Josh Friedel, John Fedorowicz and Alex Shabalov!

An impressive run of form and a well deserved title.

Quiz time. Sabrina is the second "English-raised" female player who has come onto the scene since 1993 (when the 4NCL started) who has broken the 2200 bar. That is to say, we "knew about" Harriet, Jovank and Ruth back in 1993, even though they were not yet 2200+.

Who was the first?

There's some truth in that although she has been doing plenty of coaching whilst out there including summer chess camps and workshops etc and is currently reporting on the Sinquefield Cup.

The bio on the chessbase article seems out of date.

The status under Title Applications has now changed from OPEN to YES so this should mean confirmation of the title application being approved.
