Congratulations to Tony, I see that Mr Naylor has been recalled today, I suspect the captain will be personally escorting him to the boardChris Rice wrote:Breaking news and quite unexpected is that our board 4 Tony Stebbings with his win yesterday reached the magic mark of 2300 and a few minutes ago was presented with a certificate from the Chief Arbiter confirming his rating for his FM title. Quite right Loz the team captain will also be taking Richard Bates suggestion and taking his mobile phone off him at the same time. Situation isn't looking too promising at present as John guaranteed he would be down for breakfast .... and its now 11.25am. Time for a wake up call methinks.LawrenceCooper wrote:Congratulations to Tony, I see that Mr Naylor has been recalled today, I suspect the captain will be personally escorting him to the boardChris Rice wrote:Breaking news and quite unexpected is that our board 4 Tony Stebbings with his win yesterday reached the magic mark of 2300 and a few minutes ago was presented with a certificate from the Chief Arbiter confirming his rating for his FM title. Re: European Club Cup
OK Minsk are a bit stronger than the side we are playing but Barbican have got a strong side out and looking at the individual board pairings I feel you have a chance to get a result. Even we manage a win this round we'll get a super strong team next round for sure but that's why we're here. How many chances do you get to play the world's best? Anyway good luck to Barbican and White Rose (and all the British teams tbh)!Jonathan Rogers wrote:Fair to suggest that Barbican and Jutes have had rather different fortunes with the round four pairings, though. Every time we play this event the rules on pairings seem to be different, and never to our benefit!Jonathan Rogers wrote:If anyone wishes to congratulate Barbican and Jutes of Kent in each recording wins over teams in the top half of the list today, don't let anything stop you!
Simon's game involved one of his periodic touches of genius, but all the Jutes top four boards played excellently and Ezra Kirk has been better/winning in every game now. Barbican had to turn around their match after falling into trouble on boards four and five, with mainly slight advantages only elsewhere, but did so by refusing a draw where there was still some play left (to win board 3) patient defence (to hold board 5) and finally launching a calm counterattack when our opponents then tried too hard on board two. Most of the Barbican players now have equal scores or plus scores (Chris Dorrington) and those who don't have each had the misfortune of losing from an excellent position.

I guess Peter Gayson isn't actually there then. What a shambles. You can take note here that I am personally having a go at Yorkshire chess!

If WR could only afford to take/register 6 and someone came down ill just before (after?) travelling then this sort of thing can obviously happen.

There's two other White Rose players in Rhodes, but seemingly not registered for the event.MartinCarpenter wrote:If WR could only afford to take/register 6 and someone came down ill just before (after?) travelling then this sort of thing can obviously happen.

I mean... I'll wait for a full explanation but this really shouldn't be happening in the European Club Cup.

Re: European Club Cup
iirc Ihor at least is on holiday and quite possibly not that interested in stepping in to actually play. Quite a lot else to do in Rhodes! That of course presumes the rules would even allow for late registrations.
It clearly isn't ideal.

The deadline for the team list appears to have been 19th August, although whether flexibility is allowed for medical reasons is unknown.MartinCarpenter wrote: That of course presumes the rules would even allow for late registrations.
