I have two questions for the forum.

A) Is the rule that says you get defaulted if you turn up late in place? I ask because Peter Wells seemed to turn up on time yesterday.

B) Did Rendle really win in four moves? The pgn download of games suggests he did (and the live display of his game cut off after 4 moves yesterday). Did his opponent's phone go off or something?

Standard UK default times are in place; i.e. 30 minutes for standard play and 10 minutes for rapidplay.

Not that these have been endorsed by any vaguely representative body - such as the ECF council.

Thirty minutes to default/re-pairing has been the de facto UK tournament standard in non-FIDE rated events for many, many years of course.

Most leagues are sticking to one hour (or their previous rules) as far as I'm aware.

Don't think so. I believe there is an in-built delay on the live boards to combat cheating (at least there was for the Scottish using the same equipment).

Well, for a GM, I'm not sure playing black v 1. d4 or 1. e4 will be an entirely new experience.

Woohoo! Gawain Jones has used my (slightly risky) exchange sac -15...b4!? - in the Dragon against Andrew Greet. I had been hoping to use it against Andrew myself a few weeks ago but had white in our game.

I predict a draw: Andrew seems to be always well-prepared which should balance out Gawain being a bit stronger.
