The U10 section appears to feature four sets of pairings between a player on 2/2 and an opponent who 'wasn't paired' in round 1 and lost in round 2.

Curiously one of the pairings allegedly features the 25th of 24 English players. The chess-results site is usually reliable, but presumably depends on data uploaded by the organisers.

(edit) The official site has the 25th player as being Italian. That still doesn't explain the pairings. (/edit)

Quick update on the Welsh delegation.

Venetia's amazing 4/5 run in the U8 girls was halted with a loss to a strong Polish girl in round 6. Still an amazing performance from her with 4/6 with 5 rounds to go.
We have three players on 3/6, several on 2.5 and 2, and then there's me on 1!

I'm having a bit of a nightmare, blundering pieces from strong positions. I'll blame the heat, though it's more due to my brain!

Hopefully a succesful last 5 rounds for both the Welsh and English;

Except for the two Wales vs England match ups today! :D

Thank you for the team updates to John, Lawrence and Thomas - nice to hear how you are all doing!

Don't worry Thomas, you're in a tough section! Keep going and well done to Venetia - great when the littlies are doing well!

Welsh update!

I won :D hallelujah! Venetia won as well and on a brilliant 5/7 - possible record breaker if her form continues into the last 4 rounds!

Hear hear!

While the live coverage has been very patchy, it's worth looking at Akshaya Kalaiyalahan's games from round 4 and today's round 7 on the chessdom site (sorry Geoff C, no idea how to copy these in) The 4th round game ended with 4 connected passed pawns beating a rook, while today, Akshaya sacrificed a knight to get 2 connected passed pawns and win. Plenty of holes to pick in both games no doubt, but I do think Philidor would have approved. Very enterprising and entertaining.
