British Senior Championship

This event began on Saturday and is one round a day until next Friday. The website hasn't been updated beyond the pairings for round 2, which would have been played yesterday. Has this event just been overlooked or is there some problem?

I realise the Seniors doesn't generate as much interest as the Championship itself but it would be nice to know how it's going. I'm old enough to know some of the contestants (though not old enough to be eligible to play...)

The Seniors event is progressing normally - round 3 was in play when I was at the Riviera Centre earlier today. The information on the Championships website is a bit behind for some of the events. I am acting as a roving reporter for the Essex Chess Association website to provide up to date information about Essex players in various events that has not yet appeared on the website, and I am happy to perform the same role for the Forum in respect of any events in which posters have a particular interest.

In the Seniors the top board game between the only two players on 2/2, Alan Crombleholme and Alan Barton, is still going on. Crombleholme has bishop and three pawns against bishop, knight and pawn. Paul Timson and Kenneth Norman have reached 2½ out of 3.

looks like si williams has played the 4 pawns attack against mark hebden kings indian should be a battle that!

It's good to see Howell going for the same sort of K-side hack attack against the Sicilian that I always try, and lose with.

looks like b4 was better for ste gordon in the danny gormally game for black rather than 0-0!but danny playing fast and not finding the best moves so were back equal now!ste gordon gone Bf8 it seems kh8 and rg8 was better with black doing the atticking not white! so danny has a slight edge now.if he plays Bxf8 which he has done!

Well, I started playing 2. c3, because it seemed less theory-dependent, and seemed to annoy all the Sicilian players I played against. If I know they play the Dragon variation though, I will try my hack attack, because there's one person who I play who uses the Dragon that it seems to work well against. Unfortunately, there aren't extensive banks of information on openings that people play at my standard. So I tend to chicken out with 2. c3. It seems to work, I have better results with it than 2. Nf3. Online, I'm about 5% better with 2. c3, so for now I'll stick to that. I have a losing record against the Sicilian, compared to a 70-25 record against 1...e5. Despite many attempts and different things that I've tried with the Sicilian, I always seem to come to grief against it.

I don't like how you have to commit to creating a blog just to be able to sign a comment in another person's blog. I can't find out how to comment either, he must have turned commenting off when they set the blog up.

howell game looks like it going to be a real hack up to me with wells going b4 now .

I don't think Howell will be particularly happy with his position at this point. Black looks clearly better to me.

danny gormally v ste gordon looks like its peetering in to a draw after danny look to have chances at one point.but qd5 was not suppose to be as good as e5 but you fancy ste gordon to hold danny gormally to a draw in a rook pawn ending if he trades queens.
