With a Euro title on the line, I'm quite sure there would have been some very determined opponents to overcome. Well done Keith! An outstanding achievement.

Re: European Individual Seniors (50+) Championship
There's not much more I can say, except to thank, once more, all of you for such a tremendous amount of support. I can't overstate how much this helped my confidence during the games. I don't want to get into cringeworthy 'team Casey' mode, but it really did feel like I had a whole team behind me these last 10 days.
Leonard Barden's very positive article in the Guardian also gave me quite a lift, so cheers for that Leonard.
And finally, I'm overwhelmed with gratitude towards all those who contributed so generously in response to my appeal for sponsorship. In no particular order thank you Sean Hewitt, John McKenna, Joe Petrie, Terry Chapman and Friends of Chess. Thanks also to the four forumites/friends who specifically asked me to keep their names private. Enough money was raised to pretty much exactly cover my expenses, so now I can actually use my prize-money to pay the bills!
When I get home I'll say something about the actual games, but I'm sure you'll forgive me for making a bee-line for the draw once I knew that this would guarantee me the title. For example, I saw that 38...Qe4 and 41...Qb1 ( the moves my hand wanted to play) would almost certainly win, but as I was getting a bit emotional and excited, I didn't want to risk missing something while the positions remained complicated.

Now won. His opponent took the not unreasonable view that allowing mate in one was preferable to swapping the queens off. I could have saved myself many hours of futile defending had I adopted a similar tactic in my many games against KeithBarry Sandercock wrote:Keith is winning the first game.

Keith's opponent was 2094 in Rd 1. In Rd 2 he's got a local player Silva Rui Almeida (1804). 5 rounds altogether today.

Live boards not working?
Anyway, I won in rd 2 then drew with Black v Sturua in 3, and now get a 2 hr 45 min break...

Keith, they're not. They started going wrong in round 1 when you played Qg2 mate and it showed ½-½....
Good luck!

Keith, did Kasparov say anything to you when presenting the prizes?
