The field of runners at Newark today -

Baggaley, Paul Stephen - Independent
Bishop, David Laurence - Bus-Pass Elvis Party
Brick, Nick The Flying - The Official Monster Raving Loony Party
Hayes, Andy - Independent
Helmer, Roger - UK Independence Party (UKIP)
Jenrick, Robert Edward - The Conservative Party
Kirwan, David Charles - Green Party
Payne, Michael - Labour Party
Rodgers, Dick - Stop Commercial Banks Owning Britain's Money
Watts, David Kenneth - Liberal Democrat
Woods, Lee - Patriotic Socialist Party

Could the last on the list be a front for a National Socialist (Nasi) Party?
The 'Nasty Party' are firm favourites to win, of course.
However, they could be unseated by UKIP if punters back Roger Helmer to the hilt!

Ah yes, Roger Helmer. What a charming fellow he seems to be. I will truly be astonished if someone nastier than him wins the election.

Well, at least his MEP job won't interfere with his work for his constituency, since he does nothing useful in Europe anyway.
True glory lies in doing what deserves to be written; in writing what deserves to be read.

Thanks for the link, Jack. It makes for gruesome reading - I would not have bothered looking at it if you had not put it up.

Mr Nasty is, then, as Mr Nasty was. Obviously he was supported by a considerable number of 'voters' in 1999, when he was first elected to the European Parliament as a Conservative MEP (and re-elected in 2004, 2009 as such). When he defected from the Conservatives to UKIP in 2012 did he suddenly become nastier? I see that he was just returned in the May 2014 elections as a UKIP MEP. Sufficient numbers in his area must still have found him acceptable, though he had changed his allegiance.

I wish him luck at Newark - in the hope that he will be the first elected UKIP member of the Commons. Hopefully, he will be followed by quite a few more in 2015 and a subsequent in/out referendum on the UK's membership of the EU will result all the UK's MEPs, of whatever political persuasion, returning home (preferably in small boats from Dunkirk).

That would be a fitting end to the UK's increasingly disaffected political expeditionary force - mainly reduced to acts of sabotage - in the EU and an admission that the UK and the EU, have never really been compatible. The experiment has failed both entities and can produce no further mutually beneficial results for either entity, let alone the masses of people who populate them. In short - the EU will be better off without the UK.

The UK would be better off immediately applying to become the 51st state of the US. We were one nation before, still share a common tongue, etc. Go West... Life is peaceful there/There in the open air/Where skies are blue/This is what we gotta do...

[I suggest that Andrew Paulson be engaged forthwith to be become the UK's chief negotiator and plenipotentiary. I am sure the Americans would welcome the return of a prodigal son.]

Best regards to you (Jack), Rob T & Peter W.
