ECF Council/AGM in numbers

Post by David Robertson » Sun Oct 12, 2014 4:25 pm

Yesterday's meeting in numbers. My take on a first visit (caution: may contain guesses  )

75 number of men
3 number of women
0 number of ethnic minorities (not counting Alec MacFarlane)
2 number with observable disability
4 number from North
4 number under age 50
64 average age (70 not counting Alex Holowczak)
0.1 speed in mph at which matters proceed to a conclusion
10 speed in mph at which delegates proceed to a cup of tea
0 biscuits available thereupon
2 consecutive Saturdays starved all day for my sins (Yom Kippur & ECF Council)
100 speed in mph at which delegates depart at close of play
40 number remaining silent throughout
0 votes granted to this member
14 votes granted to member in next seat
240 votes granted to the Grim Reaper by 2030
5 actual duration of meeting, in hours
5 perceived duration of meeting, in days
0 number of agenda items addressing medium- or long-term future of chess

I suppose the proponents, in particular, would argue that the the adjudication motion had something to do with the medium/long-term future of chess...

Are you sure you didn't get your numbers on average age the wrong way round?

0 number of ethnic minorities

I beg to differ mate as I'm Chiliean origin

4 number from North (what do you class as the North?)

4 number under age 50 (i'm 33 and it was my 1st time at a ECF Meeting as I was the Lancashire Rep)
Any postings on here represent my personal views only and also Dyslexia as well

fwiw, I'm actually younger than Alex, so presumably my removal would affect that average even more.
True glory lies in doing what deserves to be written; in writing what deserves to be read.

Rather than spending your time posting here, shouldn't you be writing up the minutes?

Rob writing up the minutes was never the issue, it was the board agreeing them

I am reasonably confident it was 4, only one of whom held any votes. Their relative significance on the day should not underestimated, given that a woman chaired the meeting, a woman was elected as the Junior Director and a woman was a recipient of the President's Award

That would have meant standing room only at the back. Unless I overlooked somebody, I believe that the number was 51.

Only 51? Really? Well, you should know. I counted about 15 at or around the tables at the front (Board mob). Hard to believe there were only 36 in the rest of the seats. And four women, yes indeed; but one hidden to me until she spoke

It is the last item on your list that is concerning.
