John Nunn v. Mark Hebden today. Should be interesting.
Re: World Senior Chess Championship S50
I was once given a scoresheet at a congress, one of the two part type with carbon in between, where the moves of a game Nunn-Hebden could clearly be seen on the re-used carbon. If I remember it was some sort of two-knights defence, and ended 0-1, but I doubt that game was ever published. No doubt they must have played many many times over the years.Barry Sandercock wrote:John Nunn v. Mark Hebden today. Should be interesting.

They don't seem to be taking too many risks.Barry Sandercock wrote:John Nunn v. Mark Hebden today. Should be interesting.

Keith drew, John beat MarkAustinElliott wrote:Nunn (2.5) v Hebden (3) in rd 4.
Keith A has black against Zurab Sturua. Is that a repeat of a game from the European 50+ Seniors that Keith won?
Good chance that 1 of them will win it I hope

Well, a neat study-like finish to the ending of Nunn-Hebden, starting with 55. Rxg5. So perhaps the Doctor is rolling back the years. Or showing the value of writing those endgame books...Mike Truran wrote:John N. eventually sees off Mark H.

Nunn is clearly showing value for his rating, even after all these years.
True glory lies in doing what deserves to be written; in writing what deserves to be read.

Let's hope so. I'm with the Bermudians on the anti-social starting time.Stewart Reuben wrote:You will have to wait until 2017 and bid for it to be held in Bermuda. Dresden again have the rights in 2016.

Anti-social to you, Nick and me, but not necessarily the majority of the likely participants.

Re: World Senior Chess Championship S50
I've contacted the organisers, and apparently 9.30 is itself a compromise. German seniors like to start at 9!
edit : probably they've done a run around the park first.
edit again : we're just simple chess players - game, post-mortem, dinner, bar, bed, breakfast, preparation, lunch, repeat cycle. Does that make us bad people?

Re: World Senior Chess Championship S50
For the last three British Championship player questionnaires, we have had as many Seniors congratulating us on moving their session to the afternoon as we do complaining about how awful it is that we moved it to the afternoon, and that we should move it back.NickFaulks wrote:I've contacted the organisers, and apparently 9.30 is itself a compromise. Re: World Senior Chess Championship S50
Interesting openings on the top two bds in rd 5, offering the prospect of some tactical fun. Nunn-Christiansen is a Scheveningen Sicilian where Nunn has already played g4 on move 6, while Hebden has the white side of one of his patented Barry Attack-type things against Kalegin.
